The GOP and the corporate media will make it HIS deficit even though Obama's proposal of letting the tax cuts for the rich expire is the fiscally responsible thing to do.

And of course the American people will lap that shit up like Pavlov's dog. You've really gotta hand it to those bullshitters. They've got the country hoodwinked.

So full of shit yet so very effective.

3. You're probably right about that. OTOH, I'm not convinced that raising taxes...
right at THIS time, while the economy is STILL in bad shape, is a great thing to do. I can see where it's maybe not so much the $$$ (I don't think businesses gear their business to the tax rate), but it's the reliability of upcoming expenses, like taxes, that may interfere with some businesses expanding. I can see. Businesses project ahead. They rely on knowing what their expenses will be the next year.

Now, maybe raising their taxes won't make a bit of difference. But maybe it would, right at this particular time. And if it turns out that it IS harmful to the economy, then the economy will still be lagging, even tho tax income for the fed goes up from those extra taxes.

I don't really know. But I think that others don't really know, either. In other words, I dont think it's necessarily true that raising them or lowering them is a great thing to do right now.

11. You don't know that. It's just what you WANT, even if it results in harm to the economy.
You just want to punish wealthy people, maybe? That's all I can figure, because anyone who declares that they know 100% for a fact that it would be great for the economy for taxes to be raised on the wealthy...right there you know that person is lying, because no one can be certain of such a thing.

13. Supply side economics has never worked. It's been tried, and tried, and tried, and tried,
and tried, and tried, and tried, and yet there are still no jobs. The only jobs that are being created are low income slave labor type jobs.

This isn't about punishing the wealthy, it's about restoring economic balance. When 80% of the wealth resides with the only 20% of the population, you end up with our current economic crisis.

I am not against people becoming wealthy, I am against corporations, CEOs, CFOs, and COOs who write the legislation that ends up tilting the playing field in their favor. The end result being the wealthy making more money while the middle and working classes go further into debt.

Want proof: Look at what the end result of the past ten years of Bush tax cuts.

4. It really will.

It already has been in the mid terms.

IMO let them expire and then pass something the GOP is sure to veto.

Win Win for Dems.

7. Pop quiz: Which of the following will make up a majority of the deficit in the next decade?

A) Social Security
B) Medicare
C) The National Park Service
D) PBS
E) George Bush's tax cuts

Give up? The answer is E -- George Bush's tax cuts.

Of course the Debt Commission focussed all its concerns on A), B),C), and D). They would rather turn Medicare into a voucher system, surrender "fair and balanced" news reporting to Fox News, decimate the National Park System and have working Americans drop dead on the job from old age.

9. We can't afford to give a tax cut to millionaires.
Maybe the millionaires can afford it, but we can't.

10. The Bush agenda is an albatross around his neck that he hasn't be able to shake.
Afghanistan.

Bailouts.

Patriot Act.

Millionaire tax cuts.

Guantanamo.

Bush started them all and now Obama is reaping all the blame. It's time to chuck it or else it will be his.

12. I don't get the argument.
"The GOP and the corporate media will make it HIS deficit even though Obama's proposal of letting the tax cuts for the rich expire is the fiscally responsible thing to do."

His position is letting the tax cuts for the rich expire. How would the GOP hang the deficit created around his neck?

Any compromise would be giving Republicans something they want and demanded, and thus far, it looks unlikely to happen.

This argument is that Republicans being loud about wanting something and getting it will be used against the President.

If that's the point, then Republicans can use anything against the President. What's to stop them from using the deficit from just the middle-class tax cuts?
