There's one issue that I support the tea party on.

I read the other day that some members of the tea party are in favor of term limits on congress. I could fully agree with, I would also like to see pensions disappear for members of Congress.

I am thinking two terms for Senators and six for Representatives. Thus giving each chamber a max of twelves years.

The won control of Congress and all of a sudden weren't so interested in term limits.

And term limits has it's problems. Just as you get someone who knows what he is doing, term limits hit. Yes, there are bad Representatives that we wish we could term limit out. But there are good representatives. Imagine if Edward Kennedy or Bernie Saunders had been limited to two terms in the Senate. Though states can establish term limits for elected officials, federal offices are defined by the Constitution. It would require a Constitutional amendment or Federal law to do that. And who will actually pass a law to limit the time he or she can occupy a job.

California has term limits for the state legislature and it hasn't made anything better, all you have is a lot of people with barely any experience running things. I do think Senate terms should be reduced to four years, though.

my biggest problem with Congress are the arcane rules. I can live with the filibuster rule, as long as that each side were forced to actually filibuster.

Another problem is all the oversight committees. I would never argue to get rid of oversight committees, but we need to find a way to streamline them. We have entirely way too many that it makes them ineffective. I am not arguing for smaller government, but rather more effective government.
