Growing Rift in G.O.P. is about to get ugly (for them)

Growing Rift in G.O.P. is about to get ugly (for them)

by Lefty Coaster

Prominent conservative activists Viguerie and Allen issued this call for the Tea Party to take over the GOP.

It's time for the Tea Party to take over the GOP

It's time to begin the hard work that will ensure that future Republican nominees, at all levels from constable to president, are supporters of Tea Party principles. It's time to flood GOP meetings, to seek party offices ranging from precinct committee member to national convention delegate, and to gently (or not) push aside the party's moribund, incompetent leadership.

How incompetent? Polls show that conservatives outnumber liberals by more than 2 to 1 nationally, and that conservatives outnumber liberals in 49 or 50 of the 50 states, yet the Left dominates our country's politics, media, academia, and, increasingly, big business.

Such is possible only because members of the Republican establishment are more concerned with the needs of K Street and Wall Street than the needs of Main Street. They worry more about their popularity down at the country club than about the concerns of working-class and small-business-class Americans.

They followed that up by threatening Republicans who complain that the Senator Jim DeMint by acting as the Pied Piper of the Tea Party and leading them into the Republican fold, DeMint pushed the Party to the Hard Right and squandered their opportunity for a GOP majority in the Senate as a result.

Conservative Leaders Threaten Critics Of Sen. Jim DeMint

"Conservatives will not only challenge and beat more Republican senators in Republican primaries, but conservatives will stop funding and volunteering for the NRSC and the RNC," Viguerie wrote in a letter addressed to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. "Instead, conservatives will send their money to, and volunteer for, Senator DeMint’s Senate Conservative Fund and the candidates Senator DeMint supports."

And Viguerie and his counterparts didn’t stop there:

"It would be our goal for the Senate Conservatives Fund to raise more money than the NRSC," the letter continues. "Conservatives will also work to defeat in Republican primaries those Republicans who retain consultants who criticize or try to undermine Senator DeMint."

These far right leaders are trying to bully Republican Moderates into not making the case for nominating more moderate candidates who have broader appeal.

UPDATE: The Tea Party Patriots are in damage control mode after the overwhelmingly critical reaction to their e-mail featured in the diary above.

Tea Party Group Asks: Please Stop Calling Congress

Hundreds of calls were made to Reps, as well as to Brian Kennedy, president of the Claremont Institute. He told Roll Call in an e-mail that he's been getting harassing calls: "I have received many nasty and threatening calls saying we should 'stand down' and that 'they have my number,'" he wrote.

"We have had reports from Congressmen-Elect's staff that they have received 500+ phone calls in less than 24 hours. When the Tea Party decides to make its collective voice heard all at once it's a bit like dropping a nuclear bomb. The government fears us, which is good for freedom," they wrote.

"For the moment, we are asking you to stop making calls."

The group acknowledged that some of the contact numbers they had included personal cell phone numbers or fax numbers. "This list was the best information we had at the time. We also understand that sometimes members of Congress find it annoying to receive numerous calls from voters. But we encourage them to remember it is part of the job and they asked to be hired. This will not be the last time."

use the situation to their....and this country's benefit.

Viguerie and his minions are very evil and very clever.

5. Memo to freepers: "The government fears us" doesn't mean that elected officials
should be scared for their families, at their homes. That's really not so good for freedom.

15. Those numbers always fall apart when you ask about the issues
People always cite those numbers of self identified liberals/conservatives to claim it's a more conservative country, yet people ignore the fact that those numbers fall apart when people are asked about the issues.

When people are asked about individual issues they agree with liberals far more often, often by a 2 to 1 margin.

There's so many people identifying themselves as conservatives because morons are likely to call themselves that over a single issue like opposing abortion, or opposing higher taxes, even though they agree with liberals on more things.

If some rich person really wanted to they could probably run a bunch of ads to educate people about what a liberal and conservative really are, and those numbers would shift dramatically.

8. 2012 will change everything.
Republicans may not know it yet, but their party is about to collapse. If the economy continues to improve, then the Republican Party and the Tea Party "movement" will both be gone for good after the next presidential election. They have gone against everything that congress has tried to pass for the past two years, and they have failed. And they will fail in 2012.

which was why I was not as disappointed in the election results as some were (of course it hurt to lose the big ticket race that I was working on to a teabagger legacy candidate).

18. Normally if the opposing party wins the midterms...
it means they'll get their asses kicked in the next presidential election, which is why I'm optimistic for 2012.

20. It won't be that easy for us. We have many more Senate seats to be contested than they do-
(about 2:1). They will have the huge money advantage with the new SC ruling (tens of billions is a drop in the bucket to the corporations who support them), the broadcast media is almost 100% on their "team", they will suck up the Hispanic vote with Rubio on their presidential ticket. We have a huge job ahead of us and should not be counting on their collapse.

21. The Republicans could win senate seats...
but that's about the best they'll be able to do. Right now, by the way they're going, it's very unlikely that they'll be able to win the presidential election.

10. Well, they are the ones who let the poison be injected into their own party
The half rational Republicans sat on the sidelines and let the White-Power Christian movement take over without comment, hoping to win the election battles.

I'm certain a better scholar than me can break this down, but to me it's modern incarnation was 1988 when Lee Atwater renewed the Southern Strategy to help Poppy Bush get the White House. Since then they've just gotten bolder and bolder. The only new development is that they don't really even try to hide it's racist undertone anymore.

16. A LOT can be traced back to Mr. Nasty Dirty-Politics, lee atwater. The BEAST.
Edited on Sat Nov-13-10 10:55 PM by calimary
He was SO bad and so vicious and hit SO hard below the belt that he himself actually felt compelled to make a death-bed apology to Michael Dukakis for ruining his campaign for george-the-elder's sake. He was the one who oversaw the Willie Horton ads that just savaged Dukakis's presidential run. Imagine having a sin so hideous on your already-blackened soul that you felt you had to beg your victim's forgiveness on your death-bed! atwater was dying of cancer - I think it was brain cancer. Really awful. I mean - I wouldn't wish that on anybody. But that tells you how bad HE thought it was. Which, coming from him, was saying something. ASSHOLE. He legitimized this horrible practice by, unfortunately, winning with it. And he put a human face on dirty politics. Oh how cute and quaint and adorable he was that he could dress in a suit and tie, but get up there onstage and play his electric guitar with such gusto! Utterly harmless! Yeah SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE! He was a vile pestilence on two legs. From what I've read, kkkarl rove learned it all at atwater's knee. Foul, vile, detestable excuse for a human being.

I wish I could live in their world, where reality has no place and money grows on trees and Sarah Palin is a rocket scientist.
