Tea Party attacks people who are bad spellers!

If ever there was proof that the Tea Party movement is just as elitist and politically craven as the forces they contend they seek to overturn it’s the vote count currently going on the state of Alaska. The Tea Party ousted incumbent Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski during the primaries, selecting Joe Miller to run in her place. Murkowski opted to not go quietly, announcing that she would stand as a write in candidate. She won.

In the two weeks since the vote Miller’s supporters have refused to concede. In fact they’ve brought in lawyers to argue that Murkowski ballots must be rejected unless the candidate’s name is spelled correctly. They even seem to have some issues with penmanship. The woman supervising the count has rejected this desperate tactic in favour of affirming every ballot where the intent of the voter is evident. It’s pretty hard to argue that if someone penciled “Merkowski” there is some mystery about who they wanted to vote for.

For a movement that claims to champion the little guy and spends a great deal of time trying to read the minds of the dead Founding Fathers it’s pretty rich to seek to void votes on the basis of spelling mistakes and stubbornly refusing to acknowledge a citizen’s very clearly expressed intentions.

1. Only a Republican would be so dumb as to confuse Miller with Murdowski.
Lets face it guys, they know who won the election and are looking for a flimsy excuse.

2. No, no, they misread the message.
It was an inquiry from Christine O'Donnell, who just wanted to connect with some teabaggers who know how to CAST spells correctly, her own having recently failed her.

Garry Trudeau on the Tea Party's philosophical incoherence: "The original Boston Tea Party was formed to protest taxation without representation. Today's Tea Party was formed to protest our duly elected representatives passing tax cuts for almost all American workers."

I PROPOSE AMNESTY FOR ALL AMERICANS THAT CAN'T SPELL IT.

8. A bit ironic anyway, given some of the Tea Party signs.
