win the GOP primary, depending how Palin does...Newt is more mainstream GOP than teabagger, but he has "credentials" as a RW extremist that the 'baggers respect, and might be seen as a "consensus" candidate who might actually win, which is pretty scarey to me.

Newt fits the current GOP mold - he has NO principles or morals and no conscience or interest in helping anyone not extremely rich, and he lies continuously.

The way things are now, IF he runs, he may just win.

1. Gingrich has lots of negatives...

...and I'm not just talking about baggage from his personal life. He has the history of the government shutdown, the impeachment debacle, the loss of seats to the Democrats in 1998. He's also got a very off-putting speaking style (He'll remind you of an irritating know-it-all neighbor or a hypocritical ex), which I don't think will translate very well in a general campaign.

Barring a personality transplant, I don't think he's going to prove an asset to the 'cans.

It's not just the personal stuff he has against him, it's the whole inflated assessment of him, he's nothing more than an empty suit attached to a very light head. As with Reagan, it's all "smoke and mirrors"; Reagan was a terrible president...how he ever got elected to anything is beyond me. I still wonder why the R's put him up for president after bashing the "Hollywood Elite", for years...then again, hand him a script, he reads it and "it's morning again in America". Pure drivel, but people lapped it up as if there was some great wisdom in his words. Reagan set the stage for bush, who in turn proceeded to destroy the nation from the day he took the Oath of Office.

Gingrich would be as bad, if not worse than bush, (hard to fathom anyone being worse than bush though).

He goes unchallenged, and that is where people should start, just telling him, "you're full of shit", he can't tolerate anyone that disagrees with him and he collapses immediately.

I happen to agree with you about Newt, but I think when it comes to rec/unrec it's hard to separate ones feelings.

A recommendation on "I think Newt is running for President and I think he could win" feels like an endorsement of him, instead of "I think you may be right, and that is something we should be aware of sooner rather than later. Thanks for bringing it up." Your wording makes the second conclusion harder to achieve.

I hope you don't take that the wrong way, many, many threads on DU suffer from the same thing. Which is why you can't take rec/unrec as a personal affront, or as some sign about the collective psyche of a particular forum.
