If its made in China.. I am not buying it if there is any other way!
www.workingamerica.org/upload/OutsourcingReport.pdf

Manipulation by the Chinese government keeps Chinese currency undervalued by 40 percent with respect to the U.S. dollar, costing
the U.S. economy as many as 3 million jobs.3 The Chinese government has violated its international obligations with respect to workers’
rights, human rights, currency manipulation,
illegal subsidies and intellectual property rights, among other things. The AFL-CIO has urged Congress to introduce and pass a comprehensive
trade bill giving our government the tools it needs to address the Chinese government’s
currency manipulation and illegal subsidies, strengthening our trade laws and their enforcement

1. That's how it's been with me for years.
Besides everything you mentioned, most of their products are JUNK that gets junkier and junkier every year. It's all cheap, plastic shit that falls apart if you look at it funny.

And, let's not forget the environmental degradation on a mass scale, or the lead-tainted products, or the contaminated food items... I avoid Chinese-made items like the plague.

3. I agree, but be prepared to pay the price!
I needed a new vacuum. Went shopping and ended up spending around $1,000 for a Made in Germany one.

Here is the one I bought. http://review239.com/miele-s5281-callisto-galaxy-series-canister-vacuum-cleaner-brian-hs-review.html

For me a key feature was it was NOT made in China. I'm familiar with German technology and labor practices, so I got this one. I was working at a good job then, now I don't know what I would do.

My old vacuum died. It was a Royal upright. Nice American company, but they were bought by a Chinese company and I can't even get a decent belt for it anymore. After fighting to get two on, even with the damn belt attachment tool I figured I could NOT go through that every time a belt broke. Sometimes companies do things to make you give up your old equipment. I knew very well how to install the damn belt, there was something wrong, and I suspect being bought by a Chinese company had something to do with it. Those old all metal vacuums were fantastic.

4. Yep.. but the up side is just what you so beautifully stated..if it is well

7. For an American made vacuum ...
... you can buy a Kirby. They work great and completely outperform other vacuums, but their marketing of the product leaves more than a little to be desired.

They have a rather checkered legal history, but to reiterate it is a great vacuum. Don't waste your time on the hardwood or carpet cleaning attachments. They suck, in the bad way.

25. $1,000 for a vacuum?
For that price, it had better suck more than dirt and dust! :)

6. The keyboard you typed that post on was made in China..
which is sitting on the modular fake teak desk made in China, which is next to the Office Depot chair made in China, which is connected to the router made in China which is run over etherent cabling made in China.

The horse is out of the barn as far as our appetite and unknowing usage of Chinese imports. Not saying we don't try and effect the dangerous economic toll it is now taking, but it will not be easy.

8. My blind neighbor's daughter sent her a toaster oven and she asked
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 03:51 PM by monmouth
me to come in and tell her where each action button was, she then marked on her pad what was where. I pulled it out to see it better and could not believe the lightness of weight. I warned her to be careful, it was very light, a piece of crap really, and the "baking" tray did not fit inside the oven. Of course, made in China and I believe neighbor said it was bought at Walmart..

10. That's what I do. If there's an alternative, I will take it. Saves me a lot of money on impulse
buying -- whenever I see a cute knick-knack or candle or shirt, and I turn it over and see it's made in China, I pause for a moment and think if my having it is worth the probability that it was made in shitty working conditions and little environmental or safety oversight, and the possibility that it was made with slave or child labor. That cures my impulse right smart quick.

11. Wait till China made cars hit the US Market
They will be half price compared to most others except S. Korean makes.

China will then capture more than half of US car market. All those great union jobs at GM and others will be gone.

13. And there will still be a 200% tariff to sell an American car in China, Their currency will be under
valued by 40% and the free traders will still refuse to fight for our country's working people.

19. There's lots of solid old furniture for sale out there.
I was moving and had to get rid of a lot of good, solid mahogany furniture. Mortise and tenon joints, real rails for the drawers. I sent a lot of it to an auction house where it was sold cheaply. I thought people wanted solid furniture, and I can't give it away.

So why don't people want furniture when the same solid wood furniture, new, would cost several thousand dollars for each piece?
