What will happen when Darrell Issa subponeas the President to testify?
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 03:30 PM by Politics_Guy25
You know it's coming. Do you think the W.H. should fight the blatant abuse of the seperation of powers that this subponea would entail or do you think that the President should go to congress and calmly testify, destroying each one of the thugs one by one?

This crowd is full of lunatics and I have no doubt that they will use the oversight function in a manaical way. Remember Issa is a former criminal.

He'll find something "concerning" enough to him to warrant a subponea I'm sure even though it will be nothing to the rest of us.

7. Perhaps you should
The law is iffy in this area as evidenced by the Nixon tapes and the Paula Jones lawsuit.

Buck up on your history and law bucko.

Gerald Ford testified to Congress in the 70s as well as president.

Again, before you come all ready with your snide remarks, buck up bucko.

9. Maybe you should note my use of the word...
"effectively", dude.

Were the "Nixon tapes" a person? Was Paula Jones a co-equal branch of the federal government? Was Ford subpoenaed to testify before Congress?

Do you understand how our system of government works? Do you understand checks and balances? How, specifically, would Issa enforce a subpoena, even if he did issue it?

11. SCOTUS
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 04:36 PM by Politics_Guy25
He would rush to Uncle Tony-either one- on the supreme court and they would be more than happy to rule in his favor since the SCOTUS is effectively just a branch of the GOP now-well 5 of the 9, which is a majority.

Now, that said, I don't really expect him to subponea the President either and I don't really expect ANY of his "investigations" to gain any traction but if he did decide to go bats*t crazy, he would find willing acomplices on the SCOTUS. That's how he enforces it.

To answer your point on Nixon/Ford/Paula Jones, those three cases did erode the concept of executive privilege in law wouldn't you agree?

If President Clinton could be compelled to testify to some trailer trash Arkansan and her lawyers and to Ken Star's grand jury, wouldn't a nun-judicial "friendly" subponea by Congress be even harder to fight?

10. He will try to get the president to contratict himself, build that into an accusation that

the President lied under oath and then start impeachment
hearings. That's been they're plan all along. That's the
only reason they wanted control over the House.
