Palin Loses Alaska
Palin Loses Alaska
15 Nov 2010 07:27 pm

PPP releases another batch of 2012 polls. One wrinkle:

In Alaska the big story is Sarah Palin's strength- or more precisely lack thereof- only 15% of her home state Republicans say she's their pick to be President, putting her behind Huckabee at 17% and Gingrich and Romney at 16%. When you see that lack of support for Palin in the state Joe Miller's apparent loss in the state's Senate election begins to look more and more understandable. It's clear at this point that Palin is a lot more popular in the rest of the country than she is in her home state.

2. I think it's time for a Palin forum.
Send threads about her to a dungeon like we do with I/P, 9/11, and guns threads.

UNREC.

7. well...
she's EXTREMELY popular with that 20-30% of the public. She'll NEVER hold elected office again. She'll be a mature pop-tart celebrity and money raiser for the GOP for the foreseeable future.

6. Alaskans know her best, and they despise her. The lower 48 should take note.

9. Not that unusual
Palin has done things to piss off Alaskans since her run for the Vice-Presidency, and many alarming things about her have come to light. It's also too early to make extrapolations.

But in a broader sense, candidates tend to have weaker support in their home states in presidential primaries than they have in statewide elections. When choosing governors, senators and representatives, voters don't get a very good selection. Often the same incumbent runs unopposed. Challengers come from the fringe and often have limited experience in politics. Primary challenges are rare. During a presidential primary, a candidate not only gets numerous well-funded competitors in his or her home state, but also some who have major starpower in the political world. Gingrich may do quite well compared to Palin in Alaska, but Palin would probably do quite well in Georgia should the tables be turned.

If we were to extrapolate from 2008 primary results, Hilary Clinton's 57% percent in the primary wouldn't not seem to show in-state strength when Obama got 40%. Obama's margin of victory in the Illinois primary was comparatively better, but also might be regarded as a weakness in Illinois politics.

In polling the in-state strength can seam worse. I seem to remember times when it looked like Arizonans might reject McCain as the presidential candidate.

10. A Perfect CArtoon...
There is the child Sarah-poo in front of her huge toy chest and she has a toy of each state in it. There she is looking for HER state "I know it's in her somewhere" with the title Palin loses Alaska. A nice touch would be a few grizzly or moose toys standing guard on the other side of the room leaning against a Palin pop gun !!!!!
