PPP: Obama defeats all Republicans in Virginia (!) in early 2012 poll
http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2010/11/obama-looking-solid-in-virginia.html

Barack Obama was the first Democratic Presidential candidate to win Virginia in a generation in 2008 and a new PPP survey finds that with the most mentioned possible 2012 GOP hopefuls viewed dimly in the state he'd probably do it again if he had to stand for election today.

...

These strong numbers for Obama may seem surprising after 2 good Republican years in Virginia but they're a reminder that a huge part of that GOP success was Democratic voters staying home. The 2009 Virginia exit poll showed those who voted had supported John McCain by 8 points in 2008, a huge contrast to Obama's actual 6 point victory in the state. That 14 point enthusiasm gap is twice what was seen at the national level in this year's election where there was only a 7 point gap between who showed up this year and the popular vote in 2008. So Democratic performance in Virginia, more so than most places, has a lot of room to improve in 2012 just by people showing back up.

Good news which I certainly wasn't expecting. I know it's early yet, but it looks like the idea that Obama's 2008 map is in shreds might be the usual media crap.

Plus, if the economy's doing better by 2012 - which it probably will be, I think, Virginia will certainly go Dem again.

4. How the economy and how fast jobs are being created is the only
thing that matters. If these are shaping up positively
Obama can win. If not-----ohooooooooooo.

9. I don't think it will matter...
The GOP and their hench-folk in the media are doing a bang up job marginalizing Obama. If that hasn't worked to the point of causing changes in polls like this one, with unemployment as bad as it is right now, and all the negative rhetoric... there's just no way he can lose.

They've given it their best shot, and it's not good enough. Not by a long shot.

5. hmmm. Well this Virginian sees things a little differently
First of all this last election the state went almost entirely red. Only 2 districts stayed blue. I do blame much of that on dems that did not turn out, but I see nothing in my state that will drive those Dems that failed to show in midterms to the polls in 2012.

I could be completely wrong, but many of the Dems I know that not only voted for Obama in 08 but actively campaigned for him are disillusioned by his administration and are not currently planning on any of the fervor they attacked the 2008 elections with.

10. The message for 2012 has to be something like: "They (or he) have no ideas.". No matter
what these people say or do. Just repeat 0over and over again. Kinda like they kept repeating Kerry was a flip flopper to the point people were uttering it in their sleep. Message in 08 was mcCain was more of the same. So whatever Democrats end up using should be simple and easily repeated over and over.

11. Great news
This means obama has great shot at keeping his 2008 states. My Instinct Is If he can win Virginia he
can win NC again too.Let's remember things can change. The 2010 voters will be different than the 2012 voters. They will have seen a Republican House and Romney,Palin,Ginrich, and Huchabee will be
out there.
