it looks like all of the presidents going back to JFK have received one so far except for Presidents Clinton, GWB and Nixon. The first two will probably receive one too at some time in the future. Some of the presidents' wives have received them including Lady Bird Johnson, Rosyln Carter and Nancy Reagan, I guess it is customary to give them out to former presidents.

Forgot to add I looked that up on wikipedia so I hope it's correct.

8. OMG
NY Daily News: President Obama to award George W. Bush the Presidential Medal of Freedom

President-elect Barack Obama will award President George W. Bush the Presidential Medal of
Freedom.

President Obama dropped a bipartisan bombshell today, announcing he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom next year to ex-President George H.W. Bush.

The magnanimous gesture of bestowing the nation’s highest civilian honor to the 41st U.S. President came a day after ex-President George W. Bush gave a respectful nod to Obama at the groundbreaking of his library in Dallas.

<...>

What the hell is going on?

27. They are trying to create despair in the progressive groups.
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 04:52 AM by RandomThoughts
Having an unjust society is not enough to create a subservient society, they want to remove all hope and thoughts of having any chance at a better society.

Hence why they have to try and bonus criminals, and award medals to the villains. They actually think they are the better side by what they have, from that 'having' become a justification of anyway of getting, since they think if a person was not suppose to have, they would not have.

So, for instance, they think if I was to go steal or kill to get money, and succeeded then it would be just, if I was not suppose to have those things, I either would not do those things, or would fail in the attempt. It is the judgment of 'right' by what you have.

It is an old idea of favor, where some people had advantages, the assumption is they were suppose to do something, even if it did not make sense, it is part of no free will, scripted existence society. It ignores multiple sides of things that give favor, and ignores all intent from why someone does things.

Don't feel bad, those in that group have to think they don't exist if they believe that.

On a side note, Bush may really have not known, and the blame could be on those that manipulated people to put him in office, and being nice has a benefit, but an award also is an attempt to justify his ideas, promoting the thing behind why he did things.

They also think the songs and stuff I post is showing bad people, or people that do wrong. LOL They really don't have a clue what is going on and just are trying to match it to defend what they think and have done. But there is humor in it. And although I personally would not honor them, everyone deserves an attempt at defense.

There are some that say, 'they know more also' LOL

For instance, why does the song Tom Sawyer fit in a post I make?

Rules applied back.

18. Warren Buffet?
Edited on Wed Nov-17-10 10:43 PM by jeanpalmer
You're kidding. He's just a corporate raider. He hasn't improved anyone's life in any meaningful way except with respect to rate of return. One more indication of Obama's enamor with Wall Street.

Where are the people who feed the hungry and shelter the homeless?

22. Apparently you don't know about him. Read up.
I'll give you a hint, which I think you'll appreciate, since you care about feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless:

Warren Buffett, creator from scratch of a financial conglomerate, benefiting the country. BTW, he has stayed in the country and not gone abroad for tax shelters. Warren Buffett, who has given almost his entire wealth away for philanthropic purposes, explaining to his children that they are responsible for earning their own money. He partnered with Bill Gates, and they created the largest philanthropic organization in the country (maybe the world), where they research and zero in on specific HUGE problems where they think they can make a difference. They have enough money to make a difference, since their philanthropic organization has more money than some countries. It's not limited to America. They look at causes around the world. Gates is particularly interested in education and hunger around the world.

He and Gates have also started an effort to convince other megawealthy people to give away half their wealth to philanthropic causes. They do more than advocate; they contact and meet with the other megawealthy. They have 40 billionaires so far who have pledged to give half their wealth to charities (including Ted Turner, and Mayor Bloomberg).

They have been in in-depth interviews on Charlie Rose, Larry King, and CNBC. I guess you don't watch those shows? Those interviews were very interesting. Oh, and Gates' father has been interviewed about it, also, since he runs the philanthropic organization.

The Gates Foundation is focused in particular on world hunger, which you say you are concerned about. Check it out: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/Pages/home.aspx

Buffet has been the largest contributor to the Gates Foundation. Besides that, Buffet's wife has a philanthropic foundation, and Buffet has other philanthropic causes.

Yes, these are indeed the sorts of things that make a difference in the world.

26. You'll have a hard time
persuading me that a guy who teams up with Bill Gates, who makes his money off a monopoly and by gouging captive consumers, is a "philanthropist." They're both ruthless businessmen and tax avoiders. Instead of paying money to the government in taxes, they send it to their foundation where they can funnel it into politically and financially profitable ventures. And the US Government takes the hit.

Last year, Gates donated ~$3 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. That's a $3 billion reduction in income for income tax purpose. Which means a ~$1 billion reduction in income taxes owed. It means he paid very little, if any, income taxes. I don't care whom he gave the money to. It's money that should have gone to the government imo.

Buffet got bailed out by the government. His investment in Goldman Sach could have gone completely south, if not for the government bailout. And then, when the government funneled an extra $12 billion to Goldman through AIG for credit default swaps, where was Buffet in asking that this gift be given back to the taxpayer? Nowhere. He pocketed his share. That's more than he'll ever pay in taxes.

Buffet has always claimed he doesn't pay enough taxes. So why doesn't he just pay the equivalent, if he's such a great guy?

He is a corporate raider. He comes in when companies are desperate for money and extracts huge sums for lending money to them, as he did in Goldman's case.

Philanthropy by the rich is largely tax avoidance, accompanied by motives not related to charity -- like achieving political objectives. As in charter schools in the case of Gates. A lot of the money gets funneled to politicians. Don't let yourself get blinded just because some rich guy calls himself a philanthropist.

than what you owe. You can give awa money, it's called philantropy, and he does that.
