Flashback, July 2009: Obama vows that HCR bill MUST have public option for him to sign it

Obama's word is mud. That's not the opinion of some imaginary Emmanuel Goldstein "professional left" villain concocted by the corporate Democratic PR people; it is simply the bitter truth. Any doubts or suspicions the Democratic rank-and-file may have concerning what Obama will/will not do concerning the Bush tax cuts or Social Security or anything else are therefore perfectly justified, completely understandable. In fact, one would be weird not to be distrustful of Obama's future actions given his past broken promises.

2. He got 90% of what he promised, yes PO was a bummer
but culprit is LIEberman and other chronies.

One cannot write off his accomplishment with single element missing.

Why not petition our representatives to bring a PO bill on floor, and see Repubs freaking out.?

16. 90%? He didn't even get 50%. What about Drugs from Canada, or no mandate?

3. Take it up with Lieberman who put the kibosh on the public option and was speaking for several Dems
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 01:52 PM by flpoljunkie
He actually threatened to join a Republican filibuster to stop it.

14. Lieberman also quashed the idea of lowering the age of medicare eligibility.
The OP blaming Obama for something the Senate does or doesn't do isn't fair or accurate and yet I keep reading it.

7. The main point of the OP is not the specific issue of the public option
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 02:01 PM by brentspeak
The main point is expressed in the first sentence of the post.

9. so significantly more promises kept than unable to achieve
and his word is mud. I'm glad we got to prosecute this yet again, as it has been truly illuminating.

10. Obama never issued a veto threat regarding the PO, as was pointed out at the time.
For those that were paying attention.

13. So he should have vetoed the bill
Is that what you are saying?

And would you truly have been happy about that? Or complaining that Obama did not get what was in the bill, at least?
