"The only truly coherent principle behind the current GOP"
"But, as we know, the only truly coherent principle behind the current GOP is not a strong defense or a balanced budget or reduced spending. It is simply making Barack Obama a one-term president. Compared with that, what's so important about START?"

1. They just flipped 60 seats in congress
two weeks ago, and in a nutshell, THAT is what they ran on ...

No policy discussions whatsoever, it basically was just taking down President Obama ...

2. Actually, they flopped back 60 purple seats with coherent incorrectness
Suck though they do, the reactionaries know how to do advertising: make it simple, compelling and inescapable. They HAVE to be good at PR: their policies don't benefit enough people to win a straight plebiscite and never have.

There's a bizarre swallowing of the common line that these were "our" seats. The conservatives have to spin carefully and dodge and weave with their own disinformation, because to claim that they took what was "ours" is to somehow acknowledge that liberalism actually can have the majority in any occasion.

I'm no fan of Obama and haven't been since first seeing his religion antics in '06, but the salient point is that, flaccid policy aside, the steadfast confrontation and simple repetition of fact simply isn't there. We suck as a group, and this coterie is especially bad.
