Pelosi appoints Rep. Steve Israel as chair of DCCC
By the CNN Wire Staff

Washington (CNN) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Friday that New York Rep. Steve Israel will take over as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 112th Congress.

Israel currently serves as recruiting chair for the DCCC, and according to Pelosi, Israel "knows how to win in tough districts."

He will replace Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who has held the position for the last two election cycles.

On Wednesday, the Maryland congressman was elected by House Democrats to serve as the ranking Democrat on the House budget committee, which will likely be ground zero for the big battle with Republicans over spending.

"As DCCC Chairman, Congressman Israel's practical experience in running and winning in difficult districts will provide critical leadership for Democrats to regain the majority in 2012," Pelosi said.

The DCCC is the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House.

Very nice people and it looks like they raised a good son.
