I'm pretty sure very few Americans saw Obama's brilliant press conference just now
And then we're surprised why voters are so dumb.

I also doubt many heard it as well. I certainly did not. Why not tell us about it?

43. I didn't either. His talk no longer interests me. I'm waiting to see
leadership that doesn't involve apologizing and caving before negotiations even begin. When he starts that way, the Senate seems to follow, hence all of Nancy Pelosi's hard work just goes down the drain.

5. The one where he defended airport patdowns to defend us from underwear bombers?
"The president also defended aggressive airport security pat-downs during the news conference. He said they are necessary to protect passengers from terrorists who try to hide explosives on their bodies, such as the "underwear bomber" who tried to blow up a plan last Christmas."

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2010/11/obama-holds-nato-news-conference/1

It was brilliant.

36. Being almost sixty, I almost eagerly await the pat downs.
Maybe they could serve us Schnapps and coke, and play old rock tunes in the waiting lines, to make it more like Frat Parties.

(Trying to put a light spin on this - but in reality I don't think I will ever fly again.)

And I don't really expect He of the Geithner, Monsanto appointments and endless visits to the illegal G 20 affairs to protest anything on behalf of our nation's real needs and priorities.

Especially if it involves my legal civil rights.

And yes, many Americans are clueless....and even you wouldn't deny that fact.

As for Brilliance......This President may not be doing the job that you would have
done if you were President, but he is doing a good job; not perfect, but he is doing
what he feels he needs to do; and that is why we elected him; to give him that chance
to govern; or so I thought!

19. It was a good press conference.......
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 02:28 PM by FrenchieCat
but the only thing that most will care about is that one sentence that
they can find that they will criticize, cause that's the only thing
folks are looking for. So in essence, if he states 40 things that were
consistent, strong and true.....if that 41st thing isn't quite what one
had in mind, then the whole thing is flushed down the toilet, and the
inferences and speculations begin for that 41st item.
That's when meanings are conjured up, analyzed, criticized,
and made into mountains, just cause it can be done.

It is a situation that he cannot win or get good reviews for,
and that is what most would prefer; to find fault and something to
hang him with.

If he talks, no one cares, because he talks a lot, and it's what he does that counts.
If he acts and doesn't talk, then he didn't use his bully pulpit and connect, and is
out of touch and cold, uncaring....and only if he could explain things better,
using more soundbytes and red meat sloganeering like the Republicans do
(cause they are so wonderful, but not really or whatever!)

Something like Airport security.....
is a place that he cannot win, no matter; he's at checkmate.
Folks don't all want to be sujected to pat downs,
don't want to have to walk through machines,
don't want to give up their liquids,
don't want to have any particular type of person profiled,
don't want to have to take off shoes, or wait in line,
don't want to do anything themselves to insure safety,
but yet they want to be safe, and it be done as magically as possible,
without any involvement from them,
and certainly no discomfort, inconveniences, or delays are to be allowed.

and if something happens,
there will be hell to pay....
for the President that is,

because as of January 20th, 2009,
anything that happens that's bad
is due to what the President should have known to do
that he didn't do,
or something that he did, that he shouldn't have done,
or whatever fits the occasion.
no matter.

27. No....of course not!
I think poster is experiencing frustration, considering
that the negativity is quite thick around these parts,
and sometimes it is easier to deal with negativity with
a sarcastic approach that is negative back in return.....

At this point, Poster, as do I, anticipate the negativity,
because that is about all that is articulated on these boards.

I was reading a letter written that best describes
what many in our community are currently feeling....
and poster belongs to that community
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=258x10769

Certainly it isn't all folks within our community who feel this way,
but let's just say it is probably about 96%, if not more,
who indeed unfortunately feel the acute and degrading daily pile-on
which eminates loudly from various camps (the Right, the media, the left, etc...)
and come together in a tight package full nothing but negativity.

For those of us who see things slightly differently from how you may see them,
the various reactions, name calling, know-it-all-much-better attitudes
become tiring and....

for many of us who had wanted Obama be at least be allowed to govern using his own mind,
without having mainly only massive feet shoved up his ass everytime he doesn't do as is envisioned by his many, many critics, it just plain sucks on a daily basis....not because of what he does or doesn't do, but because of the lack of support....as folks don't look for the good, don't talk about it, and don't appreciate it or respect it anyways.

And so.

Concerns START, and kyle:

'about Kyle standing in the way of the START. He detailed out three lenghty reasons why it should and will get passed.

See the video. I realize that Kyle isn't capable of shame. But Obama even pointed out the political aspects behind Kyle's resistance. The answer to the reporter's question was excellent, measured and thorough.'

25. Fuck if I'll spend Saturday mornings searching for meaningless Presidential press conferences.
I can think of over 12,5000 things I'd rather do on a Saturday morning than to see President Obama speak at a meaningless NATO conference and Number One on that list would be simply sleeping in. I don't hunger for visions of the man or thirst for the sound of his voice like some DU'ers seem to do. I'm done with all the talk. Show me the walk now.

Unemployment is 9.6% and that's a low-ball figure. Nothing else should matter. President Obama, come home and concentrate on improving on what seem to be promising trends in the last few months. Your Secretary of State could have represented you ably at a NATO conference.

Do tell though impik; what was said this morning that was so brilliant you count it to be educational to voters who won't be casting ballots again for almost two years?

What I responded to was the implication that I and everyone else who failed to see a supposedly brilliant but nevertheless meaningless press conference from a NATO meeting on a Saturday morning are less educated voters than we would otherwise be had we been awake to watch a supposedly brilliant but nevertheless meaningless press conference from a NATO meeting nearly two years before we'll cast another ballot.

Normally, I'd have let it pass without comment, until I saw the rec. number diminish before my eyes. But what I had said earlier about the anti-Obama gang doing most of the hollering about the "Un-recc. Gestapo", should be apparent to most here.

I've been off the TV matrix for over a decade, and I'll wait till the entire interview is on-line before making any definite judgment. And YES, I'm thoroughly pro-Omama by now, so I'll probably give him the benefit of the doubt if there should be any. Is that so bad?

55. Some of us can know what is going on well beyond Saturday press conferences
Some know nothing beyond what they are spoon fed from favored establishment sources from Obama to Wolf Blitzer to Couric to Fox and as a result know precious little.

65. I don't hang on Obama's every word any longer
because what he says is just meaningless. I wait to see what he does and so far all I've been is disapointed and disallusioned. :-(
