"He's got backbone like ramrod, a brain bigger than his skull and a heart that just keeps beating"
Edited on Sat Nov-20-10 02:42 PM by impik
From Jo Biden's GQ interview:

״I watch the guy. And I find nothing, nothing about him that’s aloof. Look, I judge people in large part by how they treat people who wait on them at a table. Watch him. Watch how he treats ordinary people. There’s nothing aloof about him.
I think what it is, is he’s so brilliant. He is an intellectual. And the president, in a strange way, has more faith in the American people than about anybody I know. He sits there and says, “Look, we just tell ‘em. Just tell them.” It’s almost kind of a blind faith. You know, when someone will say to him, “Well, look, Mr. President, you really oughta do it this way.” “No. The American people get this. Just tell them. Just go out there and do the right thing.”
He has a great expression. He says—and the reason why I’m confident we’ll be reelected—he says, “Look, I always joke, I always wanted to be a former president. If it has to be in four years, so be it. As long as we do the right thing.”
This guy’s got a backbone like a ramrod, a brain bigger than his skull, and a heart that just keeps beatin’…..The truth of the matter is that I think the American people know where this guy’s heart is״,

The whole great interview:

3. If DU reflects the country as a whole, Obama needs to work on getting his
intentions well known, stand firm, & do what's right. We know he's intelligent & personable; it's the conviction & resolution parts we need to see.

That we're not seeing that is what's dividing those who have faith in him & those who need immediate, fast-food-mentality action.

I never thought I'd see the day that I'd read viscious, disrespectful attacks of one of DU's best thinkers/writers on a thread from last week -- all due to faith/lack of faith in Obama. Something needs to be done quickly -- one would think the WH has a staff of media watchdogs who are keeping its hand on the pulse of those communicating on the internet. Reading the article, I'm not sure that they are aware of how the tide is changing.

It's a sign of the fast-food mentality; people nowadays are expecting quick results & have apparently forgotten how big a hole Bush left for Obama to climb out of.

Thoughtful conversation & the exchange of ideas toward group action is sorely missing at DU. Most prevalent seems to be the exchange of anger & hostility. Maybe the WH did take a peek into DU at one point & dismissed us as "the angry left". That's when we become dismissed & disregarded.

The work needed to repair the problems created by the boy king aren't of fast-food caliber.

32. Not just Dumbya Bush. The mess left for Obama to clean up sadly goes back
to Clinton. For some reason many Democrats have a difficult time admitting that policies like NAFTA and deregulation of the financial industry and MEDIA has created quite a mess for the current president and presidents that will follow him.

13. Actually, the Democratic Party is out of touch with the outside world
and that's why it keeps losing elections. DU may just be out of touch with the Democratic Party, which is a good thing.

But keep pushing that propaganda, maybe someone will buy it.

34. And it is quickly becoming even moreso every day.
The vast majority of actual, real Democrats support this president.

Just because one calls oneself a Democrat on a website does not actually mean that you are one.

But, since the site owners have now allowed 'consructive criticism' as long as it comes from 'the left', all is just peachy.

I think I've read "Obama is a PERVERT!!1!!!!!11" twenty times in the last three days.

That is what passes as 'constructive criticism' on DU these days.

21. Expect?
I expected very little from him, but I was told he was VERY intelligent. I'm waiting to see that intelligence in action. How can anyone not know that if people don't have jobs, they don't have money, when they don't have money they don't buy things and businesses then fail because people aren't buying stuff from them? It's like the "news report" that people are stopping their cable because they want to save money. DUH! They canceled their cable because they have no fucking money, idiot!

Obama's reaction to all this joblessness? It's not the government's responsibility to create jobs and out sourcing to India creates jobs for Americans! He and his people have to be the most clueless people on this planet.

I have a second family living in my house. They moved in after their foreclosure. That was almost 6 months ago, and they still have no place to go. I am not happy with the situation, but there are children involved and I cannot see children going homeless for something that their parents did or did not do. I don't see this situation changing any time soon, with Obama in charge. Families are doubling and tripling up, and DC hasn't a clue, and big head Obama for all his "intelligence", can't see what is happening to this country.

Fully justified. Things are really tough for many, and you seem to be one of them, for which I am truly sorry. But to say that Obama says that "It's not the government's responsibility to create jobs" is not correct nor fair.

33. I went looking for the quote about not creating jobs
and found this little gem. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/11/07/60minutes/main7032277_page2.shtml?tag=contentMain;contentBody

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Part of what America's all about is going out there and getting rich. And, you know, if you make a good product, you provide a good service, God bless you. I want you to do well. Then you can plow that money back into creating jobs. And building your businesses. That's terrific. What I don't think makes sense is for us to borrow $700 billion to pay for that. And we don't have the money. I mean, everybody's already talking about our debt and our deficit. Why would we want to add to it? Now, having said all that .

People start businesses to get rich? How clueless is he? People start businesses because (a) they think they have a better idea, (b) they hate working for someone, (c) they can't work for someone (people with disabilities come to mind), (d) they can't find a job, so their only option is to try to work on their own. And, way down on the list, is to get rich (which most people know is a fool's dream).

If any one thinks this black man is in touch with his peeps, I've got a bridge to sell you.

36. Wow!
Whether you like what he has done or not it is shameful to say he has done nothing.

You know the main thing he has done wrong? He doesn't brag!!
If he did brag then everyone would complain that he is too cocky
Apparantly his faith in the American people to actually do some research and understand what has actually occurred is at times misplaced.

Anyone can find this information.

37. You know what?
Not one of those things are important if you don't have a roof over your head or are able to put food in your belly. People are living in tents or moving in with friends or relatives because they don't have a place to live.

You only have to look at this food stamp video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z87XBKNto4Q to see that people are in need. And more and more people are going to food banks, some of which mainly have food that the supermarkets can't legally sell any more.

Maybe you don't see it, but people are suffering out here. Maybe if he had every REALLY had to struggle in his life, he could relate. He is as out of touch with 95% of the population as Bush is.

And taking people out of Iraq and putting them in Afghanistan is not ending a war, it's just moving people around.

38. Trust me I see it everyday
Do you think that each state has a responsibility too? Our unemployed, homeless and hungry didn't happen overnight. An economy which was supposedly based on Technology was sold to the American people at the same time this story said that American manufacturing jobs could go overseas because we didn't need to be doing them anymore. That lie has destroyed the middle class while the top 2% cemented and increased their wealth. I for one never believed the hype, why? Because I am a believer in history.

During WWII the ONLY reason the U.S was able to be successful is beccause of manufacturers refitting their companies to push out the military equipment. If we had to do that today on U.S soil we simply could not do that under a year.

As far as the Iraq war, and what he ran on he did exactly what he said he would do. Whether right or wrong he kept his word.

We need a "Works Program" such as the one after the Great Depression, but it will cost money and obviously add to the deficit. At this point I don't care about the deficit as long as we get people back to work.

Until Harry Reid grows some backbone in the Senate and changes the rules we will have gridlock on everything.

The Democratic party needs to start punching back at the Republicans and start thinking on a grander scale. The Stimulus was too small, the U.S needs to encourage U.S manufacturers to bring back jobs across the country and the incentive is to punish them for continued exportation of jobs. The H2 Visa foreign workers program has to cease and desist. The excuse of not having enough qualified workers in the U.S to fill IT positions is a big fat lie, we have more unemployed IT workers that we could fill the positions over and over again.

So yes, I am quite aware of what is going on in this country.
