"The Great Nobel Battle
By Harald Stanghelle

Like no other politician this decade, Barack Obama has used hope as a political driving force and as a foundation for mobilization."

I am a translator for Watching America, this is my latest translation of an op-ed from a prominent Norwegian newspaper.

ok, that's enough Nobel stuff :)

5. Thanks.
"What a start! What an expectation of more of the same! Also, what a risk of failure ? mostly for Obama, but also for the Norwegian Nobel Committee."

7. The Nobel committee
has made some safe choices, but they have also been gamblers. I think it's safe to say that Kissinger in 73 is one of those gambles that went bad, but we also have to remember that at that time they didn't have the avalanche of information thrown at us every day now. Right-wingers such as Charles Krauthammer also use Arafat's prize in 1994 to discredit the Nobel committee, conveniently leaving out Yitzah Rabin and Shimon Perez who were awarded the prize jointly with Arafat (Krauthammer called the Nobel peace prize the Kentucky Derby of the world left).

History will show if they made the right choice this time. If he is actually able to land a deal to rid the world of nuclear weapons, that alone is enough for him to get ten more in my opinion.
