Perhaps Obama is not a Democrat or Republican??
Perhaps he is a non-partisan? Perhaps he thought he could persuade people to do what needs to be done without regard to Party affiliation?

Perhaps the left and the right have been judging this President all wrong?

But we all have political biases. This President is not a socialist. If anything, he leans to the right, as with his comments about Ronald Reagan, and his inclination to support taxcuts as solution to most of our economic problems, and, healthcare notwithstanding, his support for the military and vocal support for reducing the deficits.

The left is confused by this President. Why? Because he is not a leftist. He is a pragmatic non-partisan.

His goals are admirable. He wants to do what is best for the country, regardless of Party. He continues to stick with this rock-solid belief.

But, in the end, he will find himself alone and without allies on either side. The left will not support someone they believe not to be supportive of their principles. And the President refuses to give them an inch of support. They are left to wonder where he stands?

The truth may be that this President is not a Democrat? Perhaps he believes himself to be beyond partisan politics?

1. I don't buy that one bit
"But, in the end, he will find himself alone and without allies on either side. "

The President has plenty of allies, and in the end he will have accomplished more progress for this country than it has seen in decades.

3. Independents don't win...
and Republicans seldom win in Chicago.

5. Exactly. (Sorry, but I'm feeling very unhappy about Obama right now.)

10. So it's simply more expedient to lie and mislead people who support you?
So much for honesty, but I don't buy the theory.

11. He didn't have to lie...
People believed what they wanted to believe. The President himself said that he was a blank slate and people would read him as they wish.

12. Wow! More 3d chess. Word: if you're not a Democrat, you don't run as one. That's simple honesty.
He chose to run as a Democrat and voters have certain expectations about that. If he did that, then he deliberately mislead people. This is all theory and supposition that will never be proven, but if it were true I would seriously consider leaving a blank slate by his name the next time a vote comes up.

13. Blue dogs do it all the time.
There are many that run as Democrats that are not Democrats. Why? Because that is where the votes are.

19. Oh it sure is a big secret when Blue Dogs run as Dems, isn't it.
It's a pretense, but they aren't fooling anyone.

22. He didn't mislead anyone who actually listened to him, read his books and knew who they were voting
For, instead of projecting their own theories on him.

6. I think you have a very
valid point. He is definitely more right than left and has a distaste for the left, he doesn't want to hear us, thus his need to compromise with the right and see their way of doing things.

8. he does listen the left
right around election time. He started listening to us sometime in September this time, and I think he'll start earlier in 2012 since it's a presidential election.

7. Interesting.... Now, I can't say what this President sees as
being the best for this country, but keeping folks in their homes, and not being hoodwinked by the banksters would probably be best for this country.... I do believe this has bi-partisian support.

9. Been thinking that myself...
The criticism that is coming out that he doesn't seem "connected" to the people's concerns isn't just coming from the RW but from the Middle and Left Democrats.

His political calculations just don't seem to be there. The dragging out of the Health Care Bill, DODT,
and his seeming lack of concern when Kennedy's seat was lost in a surprise and now the Dem Party losing so badly in the House while he does his trip to India (to sell arms and work for trade deals, and Korea for trade that's unpopular at home and Indonesia where (I don't know what he was doing there...maybe shoring up relations)

He doesn't put people in his adminstration out there very much to defend his policies and those he does put out like Axelrod seem very weak in expressing what Obama's policy is and his accomplishments.

Agree...he is non-partisan. I don't know if we've had a President like that before that we could compare how it worked out. But, what's going on so far is that "the people" are at each other's throats and there is anger and frustration all over the country. That can't be good going forward the next two years with the enormous challenges we face. A President shouldn't just leave things up to Congress and Talking Heads, Pundits, Think Tanks and Special Interest to squabble on while the country drifts without a rudder.

14. LOL Just LOL
That is the funniest description I've yet seen. We do know one thing, the President isn't a socialist or a communist because they despise him. However he is a Democrat because those who are also Democrats support him and his policies. There are just way too many fringe parties wanting to have the cake and making a mess out of the icing.

15. Krugman weighs in...
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/21/fdr-reagan-and-obama/

<snip>
But Obama buys the right-wing smear.

More and more, it’s becoming clear that progressives who had their hearts set on Obama were engaged in a huge act of self-delusion. Once you got past the soaring rhetoric you noticed, if you actually paid attention to what he said, that he largely accepted the conservative storyline, a view of the world, including a mythological history, that bears little resemblance to the facts.

And confronted with a situation utterly at odds with that storyline … he stayed with the myth.

Too bad he uses it so recklessly. You'd think he had an agenda.

17. The truth is..........I don't care
He could be a blue martian for all I care. I want someone who is looking out for more than just 5% of the people in this country, and he isn't doing that. Period.

To be honest, it really doesn't take a genius to run the country, our founding fathers knew this. What it takes is common sense, which Obama and this administration is poorly lacking.

20. I do think he considers himself non-partisan -
he is simply reporting to the elites he works for. And the "elites" obviously are not any of us, unless there are a few billionaires posting here out of sheer boredom.

What did he do that makes him so progressive? Other than pass the old Bob Dole healthcare plan.
