Flashback from July 2008: "Why Obama can't possibly win in the South"
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/viewpoints/stories/DN-schaller_08edi.ART.State.Edition1.4dc3f67.html

Thomas F. Schaller, a professor of political science at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, is the author of "Whistling Past Dixie: How Democrats Can Win Without the South."

Barack Obama's strategists are suggesting that the first African-American presidential nominee of a major political party can parlay increased turnout among black voters into a string of victories in the South. Given that roughly half of all African-Americans live in the 11 former Confederate states, the idea seems intuitive enough. It's also wrong.

Well done professor.

1. Three Confederate states
including one which had been won twice by Clinton. Not that big a triumph.

4. None of them had been won twice by Clinton
Clinton won Florida once. North Carolina had not gone to a Democrat since 1976 and Virginia had not gone to one since 1964. I highly doubt that if Bill Clinton had run in 2008 he could've done any better in the south. Maybe he could've won Arkansas but that's questionable.

5. Virginia, which hadn't gone Democratic since 1964 was the biggest coup
and PPP shows Obama leading there in a recent poll by 5-11 points over all his likely opponents. NC is also pretty impressive--I don't think that had gone Dem since Jimmy Carter in '76. If Obama wins both of those states again in '12 he will likely win re-election.

Look at the population density by state and compare that to the list of blue states vs red states

You will see that map above for the hoax that it is.

Here are some more pretty maps:
