Whatever happened to the 'Mosque at Ground Zero?'
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 12:04 AM by Rosa Luxemburg
Isn't it strange how the news of the day goes through phases? The Mosque - whatever happened to it?

Haiti lies in ruins and still gets punded by hurricanes and epidemics - yet no one cares anymore because it isn't news?

We now have the TSA thing. How come we didn't have the 'pat down news' when Bush was in control. Thousands were patted down during the Bush era.

N Korea (who planned that?)

Where is Runaway Bride and Octomom?

8. I heard today that the developer was asking for federal funds...

‘Ground Zero Mosque’ Outrage
November 23, 2010 - 11:35 AM

He wants your money. The developer of the so called "Ground Zero Mosque" is applying for federal taxpayer money to help him build the controversial and contentious project. The funds are designated to help lower Manhattan recover from the 9-11 terrorist attacks, which took place just around the corner from the proposed mosque and cultural center location.

Sharif El-Gamal, the head of SOHO Properties, says the money will be used for a variety of services for Park51, as the project is called.

In a statement, El-Gamal said he is, "…committed to exploring all sources of revenue and funding to build the community center," noting that the request for a reported $5 million would help provide "social service programs....such as domestic violence prevention, Arabic and other foreign language classes, programs and services for homeless veterans, two multi-cultural arts exhibits and immigration services."

27. You are correct, the mosque is waiting for funds from Gov't
Taxpayers will fund the mosque building. It is OK to build mosques with
tax money. I have no objection, do you?

30. Predictable: Right-wing media respond to Park51 grant application with Islamophobia.

Geller: "Jihadist Developers of Ground Zero Mosque Hit Up 9/11 Fund to Rebuild Lower Manhattan for $5 Million Jizya to Erect Islamic Supremacist Mega-Mosque." In a November 22 Atlas Shrugs post, titled, "Jihadist Developers of Ground Zero Mosque Hit Up 9/11 Fund to Rebuild Lower Manhattan for $5 Million Jizya to Erect Islamic Supremacist Mega-Mosque," Pamela Geller wrote, "Imagine the gall of these Islamic supremacists." She went on to describe the center as "the second wave of 911 attacks on the American people"; referred to Park51's Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf's recent State Department-sponsored Islamic outreach efforts as "jihad junkets"; and included a picture of a 9-11 victim falling from the World Trade Center in her post.

Fox guest describes Park51 grant application as being "like getting the middle finger put right in your face." On Fox & Friends, co-host Gretchen Carlson introduced a segment on the grant by saying the project is "asking for $5 million meant to rebuild Ground Zero from the September 11 rebuilding fund." Her guest, former 9-11 responder and firefighter Tim Brown, responded: "It's just so disingenuous. It took us by complete surprise. And, I mean, the gall of them, it seems to me, it's like getting the middle finger put right in your face."

Limbaugh compares Islamic center to the Klan building a memorial in Gettysburg. On the August 3 edition of his radio show, Rush Limbaugh asked a caller, "What would happen, do you think, if the Ku Klux Klan established a memorial at Gettysburg?" Limbaugh later said, "They wouldn't get to first base. Nobody would put up with the Klan building a memorial anywhere, much less Gettysburg."

Gingrich compares Islamic center to Nazis erecting sign near Holocaust museum, Japanese site near Pearl Harbor. On the August 16 edition of Fox & Friends, Newt Gingrich said, "Nazis don't have the right to put up a sign next to the Holocaust museum in Washington. We would never accept the Japanese putting up a site next to Pearl Harbor. There's no reason for us to accept a

20. The Right-Wing extremists still have it on their radar
They are still discussing the "mosque," because there are new reports that the people financing it have applied for federal funding assistance. Naturally this has cause a new, albiet smaller, uproar over these Moos-lim terrorists. Personally I have a problem with it, too. I don't want federal dollars going toward ANY religious establishment. But, of course, this goes beyond that. I'm sure these same right-wing wackos would turn a blind eye to a Christian church applying for these same funds.

The right-wing spoon-feeds this pablum directly into the gullets of the gullible; it's nothing but pureed horse shit, but they swallow it like it's ambrosia.

Besides, Dancing With The Stars is on, who gives a hoot about some mosque anymore? That's old news!
