Go look at this page of desperate stories from people who can't afford dental care and tell me why in the hell there isn't a drumbeat of insistence for universal access to dental care?
It isn't cosmetic. Sometime's it's a matter of life itself. And there surely is much misery to those afflicted with caries and infections.

OMGosh, I thought I was going to die. ( Found the Solution) I had a tooth ache from u kno were last week. I thought all my teeth on one side was aching thats how bad I hurt. I didnt think i was going to make it, I wanted to do some crazy stuff i felt so bad. I could Not think right. I cried like a baby my mouth hurt so bad. No Money, No Insurance. I tried the ADVIL until it didnt work anymore, Packed tooth with DenTek once I completely cleaned the tooth that keeps the junk out but dont heal pain, I tried BAKING SODA until it didnt work any more, WATER until it didnt work anymore, COLGATE ORABASE MAXIMUM PAIN RELIEF until it didnt work anymore, CLOVE OIL which helped for a few minutes but made my mouth raw. The whole time crying like a baby.
I started reading this when I ran across an insert and I dont remember who but they saved my soul. They said I needed Amoxicillin 500mg and I remembered I had some from a cold years ago for infection and I ran across some Etoloac 400mg from an accident many years back for pain (I hate Taking Meds) and at the mercy i took my chances and it worked and it made since, of course Im no doctor. My tooth/ gum was infected and was aggravating the nerves like a mutha F*****.
You will need some pain killers to make you rest and relax until those nerves calm down. a week later I still feel the throbbing but no pain its like the medicine is masking it until all the infection is gone, I need some more Amoxicillin which i order rush online from a pet store another name is (FIX MOX) which is the same I understand. I tried calling around and many stores was forced to stop carrying them without prescriptions. So keep this on the Low so when people are in agony they can find a non expensive solution.
Just remember to relax. Try to get antibiotics to kill infection before you exhaust the benefits of your pain killer because the nerves will become immune to the pain medicine and you are then left to run about the streets naked with no shame. I swore up and down that I was going to the doctor when I got better but I havent thought of it, its one of my goals for the future as things financially get better. Hope This Helps. Dont Sell Your Soul as You are Going Through This, Stay Strong. Remember this helped me and may not help everyone. Good Luck!!!! Fel from Dallas, TX

My whole left side of my mouth felt like it was broken from a toothache I had. Like most, I found this site in the middle of the night desperately searching for a remedy just to get to sleep. After trying tea bags, salt water, and vanilla and not getting any relief, I tried putting icy hot outside on my cheek where it hurt. This got me to sleep for about an hour, which I was VERY grateful for. The next day I went to Walgreens and got the Red Cross toothache relief and the toothache gum. The red cross soothed it for about a minute, but the gum was a gift from God. Thank you for the help.
I saw that most of the people posting in this were people without dental coverage. I was at my wits end with the toothache as it kept coming back. I don't have dental either, but I called 800 dentist and found a dentist willing to take payments. Definitely worth it.

Brushed my teeth, flossed, rinsed with hydrogen peroxide, rinsed with water, rinsed with mouthwash, said a prayer, and took three aspirin.
It dosen't hurt now. I can sleep.
I have no insurance and have had severe tooth pain for six months now. I feel for everyone in real pain on this web site - wish you the best in solving the pain problem.

Tooth pain seems to come only on the weekends! Had severe pain starting on Sat.; by Sun. afternoon desperately searching for relief. Read about using tea bag on the abcess. Never heard of this but sounded harmless. Was amazed that within an hr. of doing this, the abcess had 'burst', drained and I was pain free! Maybe just a coincidence but I'm happy to be pain free. Used 'green' tea bag. My sympathy to all with mouth/tooth pain.

The best thing I have found to use for tooth ache pain is Hurricaine gel. It is a topical anestetic, just like the dentist use just before giving you a novocain shot. Best of all you do not have to use a lot of the gel to kill the pain and it lasts for hours. This can be purchased at any pharmacy without a RX. Hurricaine Gel comes in different flavors, however I have found that the original without flavor is better and does not taste bad at all. The anesthesia is accomplished within 15-30 seconds. Now that is fast!! Hurricaine Gel can also be used for Cold Sores, cuts in gums due to braces, loose teeth, etc.

Today I am without toothache pain. I went to the Walgreens to get some Red Cross that others have talked about but they were sold out. So I ended up getting Ambesol xtra strength, Sensodyne toothpaste and some Dent's Toothache gum. I used the Ambesol in the parking lot, it worked for about 3 minutes, waste of money. Got home took 2 200mg ibuprofen, then brushed my teeth with Sensodyne and put on some of the Toothache Gum on my affected tooth and hoped for the best before I went to bed. After about 20 minutes or so after the ibuprofen and my nerves were settled down I slept all night long without pain. Woke up without pain. Hopefully this will last long enough for me to get an appointment to see a dentist.

I have been having bad teeth since I had my second child. Not taking enough calcuim and lack of care put my teeth in pretty bad shape. I have over 4 bad teeth and have no coverage for a dentist. I save enough money to see one so hopefully I get some tooth love. Some of the tricks on this webpage has help out alot not just with the treatments. Yet knowing I am not alone with this(that by itself ease some of the the pain I feel).Yet I do have a trick up my sleeve. Now this help for a good hour before you have to do it again. First you swish your mouth with mouthwash. Do it till it burns or you can't stand it no more. This will make sure that your mouth is clean. Then you get a piece of foil and a crush asprain and a little bit of salt. Then mix the crush asprain with the salt and dab of water to get a paste. Then you put the paste on the foil then on the tooth that hurt. It start to work in one minute and last for an hour aleast it did for me. I also add a dab mucle rub on the side of my face that in pain. Then I cover my face with a scarve to get area very warm. The pain stop and I start to feel better. I hope this help and one more thing I know this is hard thing to do but try to RELAX if you don't it just makes the pain worse. Mind over matter is a very powerful thing. If you try everthing on this page and still in pain. Go for a walk read a very good book , Watch a good movie. Do anything and everthing to forget about the pain. Cause as long you think about it the more it will hurt....SAD BUT TRUE!!!!.....And about sleep time don't force it. It will come time your body will crave sleep more then worry about pain you will pass out(belive me I went two days with out sleep because of my tooth. I finally pass out and went to sleep for six hours...lucky for me I am a stay at home mom and my husband was on vaction.) There is a sad but posite side to this you end up for a high tolarece for pain :)

This sounds crazy but nothing else was working for me anymore - peanut butter! I think it must have something to do with the oils in it. I put a dab on the gum by the tooth and almost right away the pressure and pain stopped.

I've had toothache for the past few days, and its been ridiculously painful tonight, I've just dabbed some vodka on the gum and top of the tooth where it needs a filling and it immediately numbed. I'm so pleased as I've tried everything! Hope this helps! :)

Oregano. I woke up this morning with the worst ache from a back tooth cavity ever!! I also tried to get some sleep but couldnt, since it hurt so bad. So, I tried placing some Oregano flakes on my tooth like I did last year, and I feel NOTHING right now. Last time I tried it, I was able to eat and drink for FIVE DAYS with NO PAIN!! I also mixed warm water, salt and Oregano in a cup and swished that, It helps for about the same length of time as well. Hope this helps. Believe me, if no one knows how worse that cavity pain is, I do. *smile*

Try a Black Tea Bag... I used English Breakfast. Directions: Put hot water soaked tea bag directly on and around tooth and gums. Brief story... my wife's tooth was KILLING her... tried to go to a minute clinic on a Saturday for pain killers... CLOSED! Remembered hearing about the tea bag remedy... got home, grabbed a tea bag, soaked it briefly in heated water and gave it to her. In 'SECONDS' she said 'what's happening? It's gone!' I had heard that Tannin in the tea bag soothes tooth aches. She said it DEFINITLY minimized the pain to almost gone. At least it's temp. relief! Hope it works. Now I have a happy wife! At least temporarily. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!! :)

Dry tea bag. I totally swear by this. Tonight I was in pain every 5 minutes from a bad tooth ache. Too early to take more meds. The only thing that was working was gargling with mouthwash every 5 min. But the pain kept coming back. Then I remembered I read the home remedies for tooth ache mentioned tea bags. One said use a dry tea bag. I had previously tried a warm wet one. The dry one worked much better. A minute after I had placed it in my mouth and wrapped it around the tooth and gums that was hurting, the pain subsided. I kept it in for 15 minutes with NO PAIN. After I removed it, I had no pain either and it's going on a half hour. One thing I noticed, when I kept spitting out the wet tea, was a couple of tiny drops of blood. I believe the tea bag pulled that out. I was thinking why do tea bags work? It must draw out the infection I thought. I looked it up and sure enough, I found an article that said it does just that. You can use it on cold sores as well and other minor injuries. It's been four hours since I last took meds (advil and tylenol) and I am in no pain. This is a miracle!

I was in such agony last night from my back wisdom tooth, I couldn't sit still! I came online to look up ANYTHING to help me. I saw a couple of entries for Vanilla Extract, so thought what the hell! I ran to cupboard, scrambled to find it and I first poured a capful and swished it around my back tooth. Then I swabbed it with the extract to make sure it was ON tooth. All I can say is WOW. It cut my pain down about 80%! I took 3 ibuprofen too, and I was finally able to go to sleep and feel like I was in control again.
Thank you to those who write these remedies down. This was a life saver for me.

If you are missing a filling or have a cracked tooth the pain is the WORST. Here's my remedy that works great (until you get to the dentist). Go to a Hallmark store, they sell packages of these little soft wax 'dots' (they are used to secure taper candles in a candle holder). Dry the sore tooth as much as possible. Warm up a little chunk of a dot in your hand (it's already nice and pliable) and gently (duh) press it into that area. It stops air from reaching the nerve. No air-no pain! Do not try this with regular candle wax when in desperation mode! You'll just make the pain worse (I know from experience). But really, these candle dots are a true miracle! I've shared a few with friends in pain and I've became their hero. Replace as needed. Good luck!

What kind of a country is this?? People using wads of Hallmark candle wax, all manner of potions and "fixes" to temper extreme pain? At least third-world countries have witch doctors and voodoo to distract people from pain. Where is the will to help the working poor with dental care? Is there no lobby for this?
