Learn who elbow Obama's lip.. His name is....

Rey Decerega

The player who elbowed President Obama in the lip during a basketball game on Friday was Rey Decerega, the director of programs for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the White House said.

“I learned today the president is both a tough competitor and a good sport,” Decerega said in a statement. “I enjoyed playing basketball with him this morning. I’m sure he’ll be back out on the court again soon.”

Obama’s upper lip was treated with 12 stitches after he was hit in the fifth of five games he was playing with family and friends, including Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Reggie Love and Obama’s nephew Avery Robinson.

Decerega “turned into POTUS, who was playing defense, to take a shot when the elbow hit the President in the mouth,” the White House said.

2. Lets hope the press doesn't turn his life upside down.
There's not a heck of a lot of story to this story - it's your basic minor accidental sports injury. Many of us have had worse.

14. I played basketball in high school...girl's b-ball. And I got elbowed more times then I can count.
Edited on Sat Nov-27-10 12:19 AM by Jennicut
Not a big deal, it happens quite frequently. Screens and pics were bad and then under the net. Thankfully I was just a 5'5 short guard and didn't have to do the elbowing under the net that frequently!

This guy was just playing the game, I hope the media doesn't bother him to much. I am sure Pres. Obama is used to this during his basketball games.

15. In public school I grabed a basketball out of a guy name Nicky's hands and hit his face instead.
I got the top of his cheek with my nail. He bled......... then he ended up with a scar. I felt like ****. I hope Obama doesn't have a scar but with stitches it I'm not hopefull he will be able to avoid a scar.

27. I'm not a guy but was a baby girl who shared the womb with a twin brother. So I got more than a
little testosterone on the brain. So when playing sports I was always agressive (it helped that my whole family used to aggressively wrestle with my dad after dinner). The last time I did a team sport (underwater scuba hockey) I was still really rough.

21. Indeed. Any thinking adult won't hold any liability to Mr. Decerega.
It was a sports injury. Everyone takes risks when they practice sports, maybe the risk of getting clocked in a basketball game, or blowing out a knee while jogging, or turning an ankle playing football.

It happens, it was an accident, the thing to do is shake hands and let it go. President Obama and Mr. Decerega have no doubt already done this.
