Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 03:17 PM by Armstead
According to huff post, he is expected tfo represent the Senate Democrats in the follow-up "negotiations" regarding the tax cut extensions.

I hope that's wrong.

Jessum.....The same guy who led the charge to turn healthcare reform ijnto mush.

just imagine how he might work with the GOP to permently enshrine tax cuts for the wealthy,,,,,

3. Is that the deal? A temporary extension of unemployment for a permanent tax cut for the wealthy?
Sure looks like it.

Not a good deal. Take a pass on that one.

14. Baucus chairs Finance not Banking - and the Finance committee I think has jurisdiction.

5. As was the health care reform legislation and look at what happened with that.
I understand that it's his jurisdiction, but it's not good news.

7. I have to say Pelosi has never been one of my favorites but she at least has the balls to represent
the liberal wing of the party. I am glad she is still the leader even if it is in the minority. She has the guts to stand up for what is right for the working people in the country. I honestly don't see many democratics and have the balls of Grayson, Franks, Franken and Weiner to say a few that truly stick up for the working people in the country. Obama has been a hugh disappointment to me. I like the man but so far he has been a terrible president. I really thought he would bring the liberal issues forward. He turned out to be a republican butt boy. He still has time to change but I just don't see it. I am afraid we are stuck.

9. Why is anyone surprised? He has been chairman on 2 major committees related to finance and taxation.
...for ages now. I'm not a fan of the guy by any means. But everyone acts so surprised that a guy that was the chairman of the committees that handle these sorts of things yesterday is still the chairman of those same committees today.

10. Not surprised.....Disappointed that the Dems won't do an end run around him
Baucus stands for everything the GOP holds dear.

One might think the Democrats might want to be represented by someone even slightly moderate liberal

12. Baucus isn't the only Democrat that chairs a committee.
He just happens to be the one that chairs certain committees that are relevant to certain issues. There are actually other Democrats in the Senate and some of them are actually quite liberal.

Or is Daniele Inouye now a raving Conservative? What about John Kerry? Carl Levin? Jay Rockefeller may be big on coal because of his state, but he is pretty much very left of center on most everything else. What about Barbara Boxer or Patrick Leahy or Chuck Schumer or Daniel Akaka? You are saying none of those Senators aren't at least slightly moderate liberals? How many of those mentioned support raising tax cuts on the rich, voted consistently to extend unemployment, would have supported a public option, have and will continue to support the cause of unions, etc.

I know you could take any given Senator mentioned there and find something to pick at. But most of them have voted consistently for progressive Democratic causes throughout their careers and over all have records that reflect more than just moderate liberalism and all are chairs of some committee or another. So before you start saying Democrats aren't represented by X when it comes to committee chairs in the Senate, maybe you should research who the chairs in the Senate actually are first.

13. With Democrats Like Him Leading, The Party Is Going To Be Hammered In 2012
I do not think that Dems have learned their lessons yet especially Obama. He is still lost in assuming that he can get his DLC democrats to help rather than sellout to rethugs. And that will be the demise of the party.
