Nancy Pelosi is sending out the correct message to the country!
People need to hear this. She said the Republicans were planning to give away our money to the rich. She pointed out that the Republicans were stopping unemployment benefits.

Obama needs to give this clear message!

1. She's the only one with fighting words. If Obama used his bully pulpit we'd have a huge advantage.
Very sad, but Nancy rocks!!

14. FDR had a "Bully Pulpit" in 1932, and it was based on this:

Nevertheless, he compromised, waffled, equivocated, and deferred to his Blue Dogs (southern Democrats, many of them outspoken racists) to a shocking degree! But over the years, he prevailed! He also had a strong feeling for "Fiscal Conservatism in his makeup, and when he succumbed to it in 1938, he almost derailed his New Deal program!

17. Yes, that's right. He waffled right along.
Agricultural Adjustment Act AAA 1933 Protected farmers from price drops by providing crop subsidies to reduce production, educational programs to teach methods of Farming

Civil Works Administration CWA 1933 Provided public works jobs at $15/week to four million workers in 1934.

Civilian Conservation Corps CCC 1933 Sent 250,000 young men to work camps to perform reforestation and conservation tasks. Removed surplus of workers from cities, provided healthy conditions for boys, provided money for families.

Federal Emergency Relief Act FERA 1933 Distributed millions of dollars of direct aid to unemployed workers.

Glass-Steagall Act FDIC 1933 Created federally insured bank deposits ($2500 per investor at first) to prevent bank failures.

National Industrial Recovery Act NIRA 1933 Created NRA to enforce codes of fair competition, minimum wages, and to permit collective bargaining of workers.

National Youth Administration NYA 1935 Provided part-time employment to more than two million college and high school students.

Public Works Administration PWA 1933 Received $3.3 billion appropriation from Congress for public works projects.

Rural Electrification Administration REA 1935 Encouraged farmers to join cooperatives to bring electricity to farms. Despite its efforts, by 1940 only 40% of American farms were electrified.

Securities and Exchange Commission SEC 1934 Regulated stock market and restricted margin buying.

Social Security Act 1935 Response to critics (Dr. Townsend and Huey Long), it provided pensions, unemployment insurance, and aid to blind, deaf, disabled, and dependent children.

Tennessee Valley Authority TVA 1933 Federal government build series of dams to prevent flooding and sell electricity. First public competition with private power industries

Wagner Act NLRB 1935 Allowed workers to join unions and outlawed union-busting tactics by management.

Works Progress Administration WPA 1935 Employed 8.5 million workers in construction and other jobs, but more importantly provided work in arts, theater, and literary projects.

20. I was NOT bum-rapping the New Deal; FAR from it!
But what I had noted about FDR, could be easily verified by diligent web-search. The SOLE point of my above posting, was to mention some of the "minuses" of FDR ---quite similar and probably worse than what is currently hurled at Obama. I'm speaking of course of DU; they differ considerably over at Freek Republic. Nonetheless, FDR's New` Deal largely succeeded, but it took a LOT longer than his first two years in office to be completed! And it took almost 40 years to dismantle it! (cf: Reagan and his apparachiks!)

That "Roosevelt Recession" mentioned earlier:

Background

By the spring of 1937, production, profits, and wages had regained their 1929 levels. Unemployment remained high, but it was considerably lower than the 25% rate seen in 1933. In June 1937, some of Roosevelt's advisors urged spending cuts to balance the budget. WPA rolls were drastically cut and PWA projects were slowed to a standstill.<3> The American economy took a sharp downturn in mid-1937, lasting for 13 months through most of 1938. Industrial production declined almost 30 per cent and production of durable goods fell even faster.

Unemployment jumped from 14.3% in 1937 to 19.0% in 1938, rising from 5 million to more than 12 million in early 1938.<4> Manufacturing output fell by 37% from the 1937 peak and was back to 1934 levels.<5> Producers reduced their expenditures on durable goods, and inventories declined, but personal income was only 15% lower than it had been at the peak in 1937.
In most sectors, hourly earnings continued to rise throughout the recession, which partly compensated for the reduction in the number of hours worked. As unemployment rose, consumers' expenditures declined, leading to further cutbacks in production.

3. Nancy Pelosi
Instead of listening to Ted Kennedy and the Kennedy Family, we should have been supporting Hillary Clinton. I believe Hillary and Nancy would have worked well together during this mess with McConnell and Bonehead from Ohio.

He has done many good things as President but I hate to see him being got at.

Not TECHNICALLY her job, but unless SOMEONE can figure out a way, she's just wasted her time and her breath.

18. We could get 60 votes if democrats stood firm and said "it's this or nothing"
If we played a waiting game and Obama & democrats kept telling the GOP that a specific tax package or nothing was all they would accept then the GOP would be forced to cave.

That would probably require waiting past the lameduck, but with Reid still running the senate he could refuse to vote on any tax cuts for the rich the house passes, or democrats could filibuster it in the same of fiscal responsibility to score PR points and show the Tea Partiers are big fat hypocrites on the deficit.

8. I fail to see the "Zero Sum" here
Obama, Biden, Hillary, Reid, and Pelosi seem to be working together as a TEAM, to a degree much better than what might have been expected early last year. I fail to see how her accomplishments, could be construed as a (silent) reproach of obama.
