Lieberman, Nelson: Public-option compromise still not good enough

Two key senators criticized the most recent healthcare compromise Sunday, saying the policies replacing the public option are still unacceptable.

Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) both said a Medicare "buy-in" option for those aged 55-64 was a deal breaker.

"I'm concerned that it's the forerunner of single payer, the ultimate single-payer plan, maybe even more directly than the public option," Nelson said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

Lieberman said Democrats should stop looking for a public option "compromise" and simply scrap the idea altogether.

Can these two be any bigger assholes? Hell, Nelson negotiated the god damn compromise and now that he see that something for liberals to like he want to blow it up. I can't but help thinking back to this TPM article from a few days ago.

It's time to basically pass the House bill through reconciliation and write off these attention seeking divas.

4. For reconciliation I think it's better to split the bill in two

because first reconciliation isn't permanent that why things like Bush tax cuts expire, secondly the ability to strip non budget related matter of these typ ofe bills. Remove the po from the House bill and pass the mandate and insurance regulations through regular order. Then craft a po to be passed by reconcillation you should be able craft a stronger one since you only need 51 votes.
