The DLC Types are a Militant Cancer eating away at the Party.
They are a Party within a Party, setting their own agenda firmly against the programme that THEY and the President were elected to deliver.

They are using a strong united Republican block vote to blackmail the Party into doing what they want. They do not need to stand for Leadership posts they control the agenda by dictating their own terms.

They have convinced far too many people of this line that "Conservative areas need Conservative Democrats". There is no such thing. There are SAFE Republican States and SAFE Democratic States. The other seats are MARGINAL and are won by low percentage swings in the direction of the winning Party. Those seats are not lost by the Democratic Party because the State went more Conservative - they are lost if the Party fails to deliver the programme it promised. That failure is theirs to own.

They are not moderate. They are Political Terrorists holding the Democratic Party to ransom.

They should be held to account. This is about delivering the agenda promised. This is about lifting the US economy out of the mess Bush and his cronies left it in. It is not about them. It is not about purity tests. It is about some simple loyalty to the agenda that got them elected.

4. You deny that the DLC is giving the dying republicant party life?
The DLC is against everything good in the Democratic Party. They need to be expunged from the party. Go back to the republicant party.

7. The stupid, it hurts!
The most absurd part of this whole thing is the fact that the DLC-bashers have no idea what the group is really all about. They yammer on about how it bankrolls candidates with corporate cash; that's flat-out ludicrous.

I also suspect that none of these people have ever read a DLC publication. They simply spew back the nonsense that Sirota and that "Black Commentator" nut churn out, rather than make an informed analysis based on the facts.

If they actually looked at what the DLC has worked on, they'd find that it has focused on things like technology policy, charter schools, budget procedures, and ethics reform. Not red-meat for activists, but far from the booga-booga cryptorepublicanism that the keyboard kommandoes would have you believe the DLC and its allied organizations (PPI, Third Way, NDN) turn out.

8. You're exactly right. But it's easier to hate what you don't understand.
Or don't WANT to understand.

Some "progressives" have a lot in common with the far right when it comes to not understanding or refusing to try.

16. Who says I do not understand?
I fully understand what the agenda of the DLC movement is.

I also fully understand the need for some Party discipline. A divided Party falls and all that is something the blue dogs, shortcutted as the DLC types, do not.

Never mind health care, look at the borrowing limit. Yet again - blackmail.

5. I'd love to see your tinfoil helmet.
A group that only posts editorials written by other people that hasn't been relevant since President Clinton is a cancer, eh? Alright then!

9. DLC Types.
Not the DLC.

Tell me how have the "blue dogs" gained so much power as a group of no more than 15? Simple they are absolutely prepared to use the Republican Party to deliver their agenda. They know that they can rely on a solid united Republican Party and they use that as a wedge, That is something done by extremists not "moderates". They are blackmailing the Party to deliver their agenda. Not the agenda the Party was elected on. Who suffers? The American poor and the Democratic Party.

10. Blue Dogs...
are socially conservative and either (a) fiscally populist (liberal); or (b) fiscally conservative.

Members of the Democratic Leadership Council are/were (typically) socially center-left and fiscally moderate. Like President Bill Clinton, for instance, the only Democrat elected between 1980 and 2008.

12. Gore was elected in 2000.
Lots of evidence to say Kerry won the Electoral college in 2004.

The Republicans ran a campaign to say Obama was the most Liberal Senator of all, the voters swarmed to him even more. Blue Dogs, whatever you wish to call them, have set their face firmly against the agenda that got them elected. If as a result of their failures in Congress we lose the majority -- their argument will be move further to the right. Already the only Right of Centre Party in Europe, any where near the Democratic Party they want, is the coalition run by Beluscoi. The GOP are off the scale.

Failure leads to resentment. That is not a resentment against the programmes delivered, it is a resentment against the programmes that they have blocked.

Do some of you live in parallel dimensions or something? 8 years of George W. Bush ring a bell?

15. you're just talking semantics
you didn't GET that in your other thread about how "misunderstood" the poor widdle DLC is?

you didn't read umpteen posts saying, it doesn't matter what you call them--DLC, DINOs, blue dogs, New Democrats--we see right through them for the money-grubbing, corrupt republicants they are?

Now go kiss up to Max Baucus and the rest of the fine "public servants" with all kinds of conscience and compassion, the fake democrats.

17. You apparently don't understand.
So if the DLC, Blue Dogs, corporate Dems are all the same, do I have permission to lump Dennis Kucinich, Cindy Sheehan, Alan Grayson, Hugo Chavez, and Evo Morales all together? I mean, they're all just a bunch of lefties, so I guess they're all the same.

18. You do not need permission
I am sure you do that any way.

Tony Blair was a "lefty" compared to blue dog Democrats. Did not stop him being a neo-con puppet war criminal.

DK in Europe would be the equivalent of Angela Merkel or Kenneth Clarke. So you suggesting that they are lefties - where does that place you?

19. yes, they are all committed & dedicated to The People, not rule by corporations
and big-money interests. None of the people you mention has sold his or her soul to Pfizer, Aetna, GE, or Lockheed--unlike the fake democrats.
So you do get it.

20. OK let me use the term
Blue Dog Members of Congress are a cancer on the Democratic Party. They dictate their own platform at the expense of the Democratic Party. On their hands is the blood of any Congressional defeats in 2010.
