2. I think you can attribute that to START and DADT repeal
It would be over 90% had it not been for the icky parts in the tax deal.

17. Meh. People believe in Disney fabricated myths too.
Hint: TV is not truth... Mickey mouse is not real, and lemmings don't mass migrate off of cliffs to their deaths.

It was faked. Doesn't actually happen.

18. I mean't DU was not Mainstream Democratic
and it never has been. Not saying views expressed on DU are wrong just that they are not mainstream.

What I mock are people who insist that they are part of a silent majority when the view expressed is going to get the same type of poll results as the *5-15 split mentioned in the OP. Its fine to have minority views whether they are right are wrong. It's delusional when you say they are mainstream.

24. Ah, if only popularity equalled good policy.

74% give Reagan a positive approval rating.

26. How is that relevant?
That's a poll about approval after the fact, not during the time they were in office.

Reagan's approval at the equivalent period in his Presidency was 37 percent.

38. The point is
it's just popularity numbers. They aren't indicative of achievement or success (e.g. Nixon & Reagan).

Every few days there is a poll posted stating how great the Presidents' numbers are. That's wonderful for re-election time but does little to help us grunts on the ground today.

Post some numbers on the number of convictions of crooked Wall Street Bankers or the number of troops withdrawn from Afghanistan and I'll cheer.

30. I was telephone polled 3 times during the election
It was for Congressional and statewide candidates but each time I was asked if I approved of President Obama. I said yes each time and in the one poll that asked me to quantify my support I said "strongly". I may be critical here but I am not in public. I don't even criticize him to my own boyfriend or friends. I doubt I'm the only one who's like that.

"...each time I was asked if I approved of President Obama. I said yes each time and in the one poll that asked me to quantify my support I said "strongly". I may be critical here but I am not in public. I don't even criticize him to my own boyfriend or friends."

You think there are a significant number of people who believe the President supports torture and is trying to destroy the country claiming that they support the President "strongly" in response to polls?

What's the motive?

33. Are you attributing that view to me, ProSense?
I don't believe President Obama is trying to destroy the country. But I don't think he's the second coming of Jesus either, as some his more ardent supporters act. I answered the way I did in polls because I don't want to give the Republicans the satisfaction and also because local Dem candidates were being tied to Obama and his approval ratings.

34. No.
Frankly, I doubt there are many Democrats claiming that they strongly support the President if that's not their actual position. Also, the poll was not during the election, so what motive would someone have for helping to distort the President's approval on the positive side?

Why not just answer based on one's true feelings? I don't see how a distorted view helps Democrats or the Democratic Party.

Also, this admin interprets bad polls (and lost elections) as a sign the President needs to move further right.

39. More importantly, his support among independents has grown since the tax 'compromise.'
Dems are a pretty good bet to vote for the president. Independents voted for Repugs in the 2010 congressional and gubernatorial races, and the president will need them in 2012.
