So Tim Kaine Opposes Gay Adoption
Ergo:

"I very much believe that the law in Virginia right now is the right law," Kaine said. "An unmarried straight couple can't adopt, a gay couple can't adopt, two sisters can't adopt, a mother and a daughter can't adopt a younger child. The only couple that can adopt is a married couple."

http://www.gaypasg.org/gaypasg/PressClippings/2005/Jul/Va.%20Candidate%20Backs%20Allowing%20Gay%20Adoption.htm

I have written many times about what "hill I would die for." I repeatedly said denying a bunch of rich f--ks a tax break was not a "hill I would die for" and therefore supported the tax compromise. However opposing the appointment or nomination of bigots, homophobes, racists, anti-semites to important offices is one.

If Tim Kaine opposes gay adoption he's not morally fit to be a dog catcher.

How can we allowed an unvarnished homophobe to be the leader of our party?

Carry on...

I was not and am not convinced that it is. In the present instance we have objective evidence of naked bigotry.

I want to know how he got the position in the first place.

25. It was an act of craven deliberate irresponsibility when Bush did it.
What changed?

The Republican Plan is to swamp the federal government with debt and then use that to demand a slow death to social security. We just facilitated that plan, again.

3. Tim Kaine is a "New" Democrat
In other words, an old-style (pre-rabid) Republican.

Frankly, I liked the "old" Democrats a lot better.

I certainly agree about the gay issue, but lets not leave out all the other couples that can't adopt either. These guys are backward motherfuckers.

10. Tim Kaine opposes gay rights, period.
From Wikipedia:

Before entering into Virginia politics, Kaine was a lawyer in Richmond, Virginia, and worked with the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) as a Catholic missionary in Honduras.

Kaine stated his position on marriage and gay rights as such:
“Marriage between a man and a woman is the building block of the family and a keystone of our civil society. It has been so for centuries in societies around the world. I cannot agree with a court decision suddenly declaring that marriage must now be redefined to include unions between people of the same gender.

“Virginia defines marriage as being between a man and a woman and I strongly support that law. Regardless of the court ruling today in another state, I am confident that there is nothing in the Virginia or federal constitutions that would require Virginia to alter its longstanding policy about marriage.”

"“I do not support any change in the institution of marriage. I do not support the creation of civil unions, but I do believe that gays and lesbians should be able to contract with one another, and we should respect those contracts in Virginia law, just as we respect any contracts.

“And finally in the area of adoption. Virginia has adoption laws right now that I agree with. The adoption laws say the only couple that is allowed to adopt is a married couple.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Kaine#Political_positions

VA is so anti-gay marriage that in 2004 they passed H.B. 751, which states the following:

The new law, known by most as H.B.751, prohibits any “civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement between persons of the same sex purporting to bestow the privileges or obligations of marriage” and further legislates that Virginia will not recognize same-sex marriages or similar arrangements made in other states. The law is an amendment to Virginia’s 1997 Affirmation of Marriage Act, and it takes the existing state law far beyond banning gay marriage, as many states have done in the past year.

Kaine was the President of the State Senate and Lt. Governor when this law was passed...

And preventing gay couples in monogamous relationships from adopting kids.

One is a bow to political reality however distasteful. The other is just plain, old fashioned, hatred of gays.

20. It is more than just adoptions and he's been Chair for two years
with little noise from the straight community about his bigotry. So tell me, how CAN you allow this? The day Obama appointed him was the day this Party of my father and my father's father became someone else's Party, not mine. This is a Party for religious bigots only. Obama says only straight people are 'sanctified by God'. Utter nonsense. Yet the straights drink it up like cola!

26. Tim Kaine Is Hiding Behind The Canard That Only Married Couples Can Adopt Children
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 01:36 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
And since he oppose members of the same sex marrying they are prohibited from adopting children.

Or do you support both bans?

on edit- if gay marraiage was legal and unmarried gay couples wanted to adopt I would extend the same prohibition to them that is extended to unmarried straight couples. I believe everybody should be subect to the same standards.

27. Does Kaine know any gay people?
Where I live, I can see on any particular day at least one gay person with a child that they adopted. Usually, the kid is laughing or is being loved like any other kid who has a parent. Does Kaine have the balls to walk up to people like these and say that the kid needs to go into "protective custody" until a married couple can adopt them?

Seriously, someone who is gay and has adopted a child needs to confront his sorry ass and ask him point blank.

He isn't fundraising in Virginia (Roanoke, Richmond, the Beach, NoVA, etc.) without knowing lots of gay people.
