Both the Legislative and Executive branches of government can help or hinder the economy through trade regulation, tax rates, and other aspects of monetary policy. Government can also create jobs by simply hiring people.

But about 91% of the jobs in this country are in the private sector. The economy, for the most part, runs itself in spite of what government does or does not do. Most jobs are created when people start or expand businesses. Government actions can make conditions for business growth more or less favorable, and influence the kinds of businesses that are favored.

I found her remarks arrogant and narcissistic.

He deserves SOME credit. I never said nobody deserves credit for effective, appropriate economic policies. To quote myself with emphasis added:

I hope unemployment is back down below 7%, and that the news conveys positive trends every day.

If that happens, I'll be here in the crowd with you and everyone else on DU denouncing John Boehner for claiming credit that he and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives don't deserve.
