For some reason, MSNBC felt the need to tell us NOW that 65% of white voters disapproved of Obama
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 03:38 PM by jenmito
This is to clear up another thread that had this statistic. The number came from exit polls back in the MIDTERMS when a majority of white voters, including many teabaggers, came out to vote.

Ron Brownstein was on MSNBC discussing the exit polls of the midterms re: how the white voters disapproved of Obama. I have NO idea why they would have such a segment, except, of course, to "prove" how Obama has "fallen" in the polls with white voters and how difficult THAT means it could be for him to be re-elected in '12.

They've also been running and re-running a "glowing" segment about Marco Rubio. That's our "liberal" media in action. :eyes:

1. How do they explain
his 50% approval rating on Gallup if 65% of whites disapprove?

2. They didn't talk about anything but those midterm exit polls.
Out-of-date, skewed numbers.

3. Could it be they are setting the stage for another meme. which
will go something like this??? In order for Obama to win
he has to bring the white Independents and some of the white
voters back to his side. Therefore he must accept thie
Republican strategy or at least many parts of it???

5. I don't think that's it. I think these folks really believe that white voters are more important
than minority voters - or at least that their opinions are more valid.

4. If whites overwhelmingly supported Obama, that would be seen as a sign that he's doing a good job
If blacks overwhelmingly support him, that's seen as a sign that blacks are supporting him because he's black.

No matter how people try to spin it, the ugly fact is that, in this America, the attitudes of whites are treated as the norm while the attitudes of minorities are treated as an aberration - unless, of course, they comport with the views of the white majority. It never seems to occur to folks that it is very possible that when black and white views differ, the black view might occasionally be the more well-thought-out, intelligent and valid one.

6. What?!? No mention of whether they're LAND-owning whites!?!?
It's not enough to focus just on whites. This poll is meaningless unless it further excludes all but those whites who own land, whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower, and who hold a current membership in a whites-only country club!

:sarcasm:

12. I can casually count EIGHT whites that I know who voted for Obama...
Edited on Sat Jan-08-11 08:04 AM by CitizenLeft
...and STILL support him - who didn't vote in the mid-term due to a variety of reasons, the main one being they just didn't see the importance. Talking about losing the House and realignment and even the governorship is not a sexy sell, no matter how urgently you put it. Most voters simply don't bother, they stick to the presidential election years because it's easy, it's in their face, everybody's talking about it, and it satisfies what they see as their civic duty, and that's where it ends. And they're not partisan enough to care. The media explaining it any other way is disingenuous. The only people who are serious mid-term voters are people like us, and our insane racist counterparts on the right. I did convince a few white folks to vote (moderates, btw), and my fellow black co-workers did their/our part. Otherwise, people sit and watch the news and say, dang, I meant to vote. Oh well. That's particularly true of the younger voters, who have become a part of our base. That's just the way it is.

Edited to add, before anyone says it: I speak to 20-25 people either regularly or occasionally about politics - almost all are NOT politically active - and not one Obama voter - NOT ONE - was disatisfied enough with him to stay home on this past election day or the next. Just sayin'. I only know of one other really serious political junkie - who does post here - :hi: - and she voted. And she'll vote for Obama again, without hesitation.
