Officials: Suspect Claims he acted alone

WASHINGTON – Officials familiar with the investigation into a shooting rampage in Arizona say the suspect claims he acted alone.

At least five people were killed and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head in the episode, which unfolded as the Democratic congresswoman was greeting constituents in her district in Tucson, Arizona.

Police say the shooter is in custody. He has been identified by officials familiar with the investigation as Jared Loughner, 22.

Officials say Loughner told authorities at the scene he had acted alone, although it is not certain that is the case.

Only the people directly involved know the suspect's mental state. We also don't know if he acted alone.

Acts like this are never carried out by people who are thinking clearly. That applies to everyone from abortion doctor killers to Timothy McVeigh.

Given what we do know, this is a perfect time to condemn hateful rhetoric. If it was okay to condemn it yesterday, it's okay to condemn it today. And it doesn't require knowing the political affiliation of the suspect. Sarah Palin knows this

What are the odds of an murder attempting to kill a Congressperson that Sarah Pallin put into the crosshairs of a gunsite on her "Hit List" of 20 Congresspeople that Sarah Pallin wanted to eliminate?

Has is not occurred to the good people of Tuscon, that there is likely a relationship between Sarah Pallin's Hit List and this clearly crazy young white man.

Whenever anyone is attacked an ATM or on a dark street, the safety warnings to be careful always go out. They include not walking alone at night, being alert, etc.

Sick assholes kidnap children, and kids are rightfully told not to talk to strangers.

Taking the opportunity to denounce hateful political rhetoric on a day a member of Congress is shot at a political event is cautionary.
