Obama attends church service in Washington
I wish Teabaggers and Fox News should shut up... but they don't do that..
President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attended a church service in Washington this morning in which they and the crowd prayed for the victims in Tucson, Ariz.
During morning prayers, a speaker at Metropolitan AME church asked the congregation to remember "the people of Tucson, Ariz.;" worshipers responded with a chorus of "amens."
The Right Rev. Adam J. Richardson praised the president's memorial speech Wednesday in Tucson, and said: "Mr. and Mrs. Obama thank you for your leadership."
The service also honored the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday.
And worshipers also recognized another significant date: They sang happy birthday to Michelle Obama, who turns 47 on Monday.
Obama has rarely attended over the past two years, preferring to keep his faith private. He has attended less than a dozen church services over the past two years.
The president's faith has been a sensitive topic. A highly publicized poll last year showed that nearly 20% percent of Americans believe he is a Muslim.
Obama receives a daily devotional on his Blackberry and often speaks by phone with pastors, some of whom offered suggestions for the eulogy the president delivered Wednesday in Tucson.
In those remarks, Obama cited Scripture:
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
