I've criticised Obama in the past for his conciliatory tone when he should be fighting, but on this occasion, it was his greatest strength. With all the inflammatory rhetoric that has been flying around, it needed "no drama Obama" to set exactly the right tone. His speech looks even better when contrasted with Sarah Palin's narcissistic, self-pitying response.

Throughout his political career Obama has had some true oratical masterpieces to his name, but the one he gave in Tucson was a true stunner.
