8. Devil's advocate for a moment...

We're often critical of the enormous power and prestige that has been given to the office of the President. Shouldn't the leadership of a co-equal branch of government be perfectly entitled to decline an invitation from the President? Shouldn't it be no different than the Speaker inviting the President to his office on the hill and the President declining the invitation?

Yes I know that Boehner's motives have jack shit to do with executive power or prestige and I know that part of the Republican base doesn't see this President as legitimate because of his skin color. But setting that aside for a moment, maybe Boehner is setting a decent precedent for the future where that we don't see the President as so damn special that you are obligated to appear at the White House if invited.

Yes, the speaker of the house is entitled to decline an invitation from the President but probably not "perfectly" entitled since it is still a breech of etiquette and tradition
