That's one issue. I haven't made a list and averaged them out to see if I somewhat approve or somewhat disapprove overall, but that tax cut thing is like a fat butcher's thumb pressing down on the scale at the meat counter.

Then of course you pretend in your reply that that part was there all along. Oh well.

As President - I prefer him to any republican. Approve of him as president? I do not approve of the job he is doing. It is far too timid and gives away too much of the Democratic legacy to the republicans. He was not ready for the job. Given his skills and his experience, he is probably doing the best he can. He needs to stop acting like he thinks he shouldn't be in the office. He won with overwhelming support and frittered away that advantage and our best hope for decades to actually try to free the country from the mess of the preceding 8 years. He should have learned quicker. He should have been wiser about picking his advisors.

to take time to write. I don't pop off replies without thinking. Maybe you do. I write my post and paste it after reflection. I often check to see if similar posts have already been made. Maybe you don't. I have been known to edit my remarks after posting, sometimes because of my own typo and sometimes at the suggestion of those who have replied. I don't go all huffy and puffy because someone points out something that I am willing to acknowledge with an edit. Maybe you do.

Seven minutes is a very short time to actually compose and post a reply unless you don't really think about what you write.

Some people are overly sensitive to criticism. It happens.

Some people avoid addressing the issue of a post with diversions and by changing the subject. It happens.

So you seemed to respond to replies 1 and 6 about the inanity of your OOP. Good for you. Sorry I bother the think before I write. When I don't, I don't mind owning up without whining.

- Gitmo is still open and people are being held indefinitely without trial.

- Bush tax cuts extended for the wealthy going against his campaign promise and likely to result in even more deficit spending

- Health care bill that will push millions of uninsured Americans into private plan resulting in windfall profits for the insurance industry.

- Keeping many US soldiers, contractors and bases in Iraq even though the war is supposedly over. Who knows how long they will be there for

- Expansion of the war in Afghanistan (yes I know he promised this, but it doesn't mean I have to approve)

- Expansion of predator drone attacks against civilians in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

- Having a former executive at JP Morgan become your chief of staff.

- No real effort on gun control

- Working with republicans to reduce regulations in the name of "job growth"


There are other reasons I could list, but I'm lazy.....

I think that Obama is doing a reasonably good job as president - the US is in a much smaller economic crisis than it would have been otherwise, DADT was repealed and so on - but I don't approve of him as an individual: he appears to be arrogant and messianic, and seems not to take it well when left-wingers don't have as high an opinion of him as he does himself.

If the "Hope" and "Change" posters with him staring off into the distance were just cynical manipulation of the electorate, I'd have been fine with them. But I worry that Obama may genuinely see himself that way.

And for those who "Strongly Disapprove".. I wonder who you think would do a better job, and still have a shot in hell at actually getting elected. It's great to talk about how a very far-left liberal would be a better option.. but since they have no shot in hell in actually getting elected - it's kind of a moot point.
