You and I are in agreement that it is not, but there are several here that think differently.

109. Sure, I get it. I always have: atheists want to have the same recognition as a major religion.
It's bullshit.

Why should someone who has a patent disbelief receive special recognition for that disbelief?

"We'd like to pay special thanks to all those charities who made this event possible: Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Red Cross, Doctors without Borders. And let's not forget all those people who feel that charities are a waste of time and money."

What's not to get?

110. Couple problems with that
Edited on Thu Jan-27-11 12:57 PM by Goblinmonger
1. If it is recognition of religions, I don't expect to be in there. But when he is talking about the different types of soldiers and mentions religions, he may want to acknowledge those without religion, too. Or are they not soldiers that add to the diversity? When he talks about prejudice in regard to religion, he may want to actually recognize that atheists are at the lead in prejudice because of their lack of religious beliefs.

2. Are you seriously saying that atheists aren't charitable? I don't think so, but it kind of looks that way.

89. Yes, but how many Americans think being 'moral' is a good thing?
Maybe 60%? Maybe 70%

Maybe it's just because I'm in school, but it's pretty easy to find people (who others would think moral, not criminals and sociopaths) who just reject the whole notion of 'morality' as a fraud. To them, being 'moral' means doing what some authoritarian leader, organization, or belief system tells you to. It has nothing to do with making good decisions.

How many DUers identify with being a 'bad boy'? or a 'bad girl'?

If you did tell all the others to "don't have snit" then I apologize because usually when I start to read one that says "Obama doesn't get it he forgot to mention.......(any one of a possible infinite number of things he could have mentioned) I usually stop reading and go elsewhere.

66. He addressing RELIGIONS & Atheism is NOT a religion. It was about Religious Hate Speech
So to talk about Atheism when you talking about different religions doesn't even make sense. Atheists don't worship any thing.

He didn't mention Xenu for the Scientologists or the Goddess for Pagans either.

His point was to get people to stop the Muslim hate talk (remember Conservative Christians are protesting Mosque buildings).

100. To be a declared "Atheist", you are saying you believe in playing the Superstition Game
Real atheists don't even give a shit about whether there is any dialogue about a "God". You bit the bait if you even go there saying you think there is no God.

Saying you don't believe in God is as stupid as saying you do believe in God. It gets you sucked in the Mystical Superstition Vortex.

Why even go there?

102. Why do so many people have difficulty pluralizing
"atheists" and "terrorists"? It's a constant thing -- "we need to fight the terrorist in their hiding places" and "why did he forget us atheist?"

It's widespread and bizarre.
