You can't pull a horse cart without a horse
Edited on Tue Dec-15-09 05:43 PM by Jersey Devil
What is the benefit of a weak, stinky bill?

Some have said, OK, the bill covers pre-existing conditions but without cost controls what good is that?

OK, the bill, minus a public option of any kind and minus cost controls of any kind (except for private coops which is still, I think, in the bill) passes and everyone reads you can't be turned down for pre-existing conditions.

Joe Blow of NY, who is 55, uninsured and suffered from a heart attack 2 years ago, runs down to Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield to sign up and they take his application and say, "Pleased to have you aboard as an insured Mr. Blow. Now the premium will be $9,250 per month, thank you."

So how long after that do you suppose that the issue of premium caps for pre-existing conditions would take to come up before Congress?

Of course if you don't pass anything the issue never comes up because the cart doesn't have to go anywhere and can stay in the barn. But once it's harnessed to the horses and out on the street ready to go and take Mrs Blow to the doctor, somebody is going to have to deal with it.

1. What a shitty OP!
Pardon, but I am posting as my alter ego though DU rules prevent me from using my alter ego moniker, "Jersey Angel".

Anyway, what Jersey Devil just posted in his OP is a big stinkin' pile of bullshit (or maybe that should be horseshit to be thematically correct).

I was inspired by the Jekyll/Hyde nature of DU today. Yayyy Obama! Boo! OK, now I am with the program.

2. Nor without a cart. This bill lacks both. All it has is a whip, to crack over the populace.
Kill it. Or threaten to filibuster it unless the PO or Medicare-buy-in, or both, are returned.
