They'll bend over for little Joe so he can more conveniently fuck us all, but they're going to unleash their attack dogs on Dean, who's bent over backward trying to support them, until he couldn't do it anymore.

Lieberman but he isn't so how the hell does this crap change the dynamics of what we are dealing with to pass health insurance reform?

3. This can work both ways
maybe it can't be passed unless the conservatives start giving a little. They need the progressive votes too.

This isn't HCR. It's a big giveaway to the insurance companies.

7. It hasn't . . .but, THEY need 60 votes, too . . .
and, Roland Burris has said he WILL filibuster any HCR bill that does not have a public option . . . if he follows through with it (and I hope to GOD he will!) the current bill is DEAD,and they will have to start from scratch using reconcilliation!

Progressives need to LOUDLY support Dean and Burris . . . and to tell Rahm Emanuel to pull his lips off of Joe Lieberman's ass!!

30. A bad bill is a bad bill
Howard Dean is a realist. This bill isn't health insurance reform.

32. There is a lot of insurance regulation within it that can't be done through Reconcilliation and if
we drop it now it is NOT coming back up for at LEAST a decade.

Pass the regulatory reform now.

Do the Reconcilliation Bill to add subsidies or a Medicare-Buy in afterwards. Those only need 51 votes.

Getting rid of Pre-existing Conditions exclusions, etc. need 60 votes. They aren't gong to go through this nightmare again to get to the regulatory reform for a very long time - at least 15 years if this goes down in flames. People are fooling themselves if they act like Congress will.

It is much easier to modify it once it is in place or to add subsidies or the Medicare-Buy In. Doing it all at once is what is so difficult.

Giving up now would be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Snowe is teetering but likely out also. The sorry-ass Repugs will probably remain united against reform. So we need all the Dems + Sanders and Liberman.

21. Snowe could vote for cloture and then reserve her right vote against the final bill..
Here are her recent comments: "I'm not leaning any way, I'm leaning to try to get it right, if it's possible."

Sounds like some wiggle room there to me.

11. Key word: "reportedly".
The media lurves them some "divided Democrats" meme.

That being said, I wouldn't blame the White House for being mad at Dr. Dean. His most recent "scream" (sorry) is not helpful for the cause of progress.

Come on. It was a bit of tongue-in-cheek...

Hey, I respect Dr. Dean and admire his passion. I just think he's wrong.

Passion and principle are really cool. But I like responsible legislating/governing better.

27. Most of us think principles are "really cool".
Some frat-boy types don't care about "principles"
as long as it looks like
their team is winning.

Mandated health care without price
caps is NOT a win.

Not in ANY way.

This shit bill needs to die a quick death.

28. gonna defend Dean here
the man got health care done in his state. He got civil unions done in his state. He was a Governor after all... before he led us to victories in 2006 and 2008.

I am still pulling for HCR to pass, but I respect Dr. Dean way too much to have him knocked down a few rungs just because he doesn't happen to be in the Senate right now.

I gathered from another thread that it was single source on Morning Joe.

If that is the case I think I will treat a little skeptically until I hear more info.

22. I consider Obama himself guilty of fracturing the Democratic Party
Obama has clearly shown whose "side" he's on, and he started on Day 1 by appointing Rahm Emmanuel to be the front man warding off any alliance with progressives. He snubbed Howard Dean, not even considering him for the obvious post of Surgeon General, let alone a Cabinet position of Secretary of Health & Human Services, knowing full well that with Dean comes an entire army of eager, dedicated, selfless "followers" (I prefer the word "fans" myself, as "followers" implies blind devotion and a certain loss of rationality)--VOTERS who will vote for Democratic principles, visions, and ideals without hesitating. They are also known to be pavement-pounders, getting out the vote in droves and can be galvanized to put pressure on congresspeople.

Progressives are now like the token "negroes" or "girls" in the administration, with a few window-dressers in obscure, low-level, powerless positions.

He had the entire country in the palm of his hand upon being elected, but Obama seems to have been intent on creating another version of the Republican party--some unoriginal, unquestioning, status quo supporting, corporate ass kissing version with a little "social conscience" thrown in for the sake of being "democrats."

He has squandered the good will and unity of a vast group of progressive voters, represented in the millions by such orgs as MoveOn, SinglePayer.org, Color of Change, CREDO, Change.org, FireDogLake Action, Democracy for America--on and on ad infinitum. These are just some I receive e-mails from daily--there are veterans' groups, womens' groups, gays' groups, etc. etc., all "trying" to "get through" and be heard.

I will be aligning with Howard Dean in hopes that all that progressive energy can be channeled into a viable alternative political party to the single-party system we have now.

Surgeon General, but he isn't qualified. He is qualified for Sec of HHS. They're two very different posts. Dean has no expertise in things like epidemiology.
