Obama = Terry McAuliffe 2.0.
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 04:47 PM by LittleBlue
Obama's healthcare fiasco is reminiscent of Terry McAuliffe's leadership. Failure.

Calling for "reform" and then not getting involved in the process, and expecting the 535 members of congress to get together and find reform was lunacy. Actually, it was some of the worst strategy imaginable. We've turned winning issues into political disasters-- that's McAuliffe in a nutshell. And it's now Obama in a nutshell.

When this thing started, I called for the president to release a bill from the White House and work to get it passed. People told me that Obama's strategy was better-- let congress handle this. HA! What a fucktacular mistake.

1. It makes me wonder if he's compromised in some way.
Was it his choice to hire Rahm and the DLC retreads to fill his cabinet? Did the Clinton's have something on him after all? I know it's tin-foily, but Obama's behavior is bizarre--even to one who's used to bizarrely disappointing behavior from the Dems.

5. No idea why he chose that guy. In hindsight, it was a huge blunder.
Rahm's "hands off" approach has clearly backfired. He looks like a fool.

7. I think it is simpler than that
Obama wanted to hit the ground running with people who knew what's what from day one.

The only pool of Dems (under 90 years old) experienced in running the executive branch were from the Clinton administration.

Remember that the only reason Obama trashed the Clinton administration was that he was running against Hillary. All other things being equal, disparaging Clinton would not be a good move in a Dem primary.

If it wasn't for Hillary he probably would have run explicitly promising to be another Clinton and folks wouldn't be surprised.

11. Who did Clinton pick for his staff? He should've emulated him there as far as getting fresh blood
in there. I think you're absolutely right about his Clintonian tendencies. I think we're now seeing that much of what he said in the campaign was to draw a contrast between he and the Clintons. Sadly, I think he's on board with Rahm.

Fingers crossed for eight years of peace and prosperity. Big Dog's heir.

3. Actually, I think this "reform" is exactly what Obama wanted
The status quo is largely protected and his reelection campaign will collect some nice checks from pharma and the insurance companies. Plus, the PTB will see he's taken care of when he leaves "public" service.

And, he thinks we're dumb enough to fall for it if he makes it sound pretty enough.

9. It depresses me even to think about it. And to think that I donated money to fund this effort
I'd give anything to have 2008 back. I wasted so much time wrapped up in that election, donating, etc. It's like you've played a card game, and not only did you lose, but you don't realize until afterward that the game is rigged and you couldn't win to begin with.
