Step away from the spin. The Obama administration is not on the verge of collapse.
In some good news for Obama, a chunk more people said the country is heading in the right direction, 46 percent compared with just 38 percent last month. And the increase is evident among Republicans, Democrats and independents.

The president's overall job-approval rating essentially held steady at 56 percent — even though the health care overhaul hasn't been completed, the fate of much-desired legislation curbing climate change is uncertain, and the unemployment rate remains at 10 percent while budget deficits rise to record levels.

Trend from polling report:

Right Track/Wrong Track

AP-GfK Poll

10/16-20/08
Right Direction 17%
Wrong Direction 78%

11/5-9/09
Right Direction 38%
Wrong Direction 56%

12/10-14/09
Right Direction 46%
Wrong Direction 50%

Daily Kos poll

1/5-8/09
Right Direction 26%
Wrong Direction 63%

12/7-10/09
Right Direction 40%
Wrong Direction 58%

CBS News/New York Times Poll

12/4-8/09
Right Direction 37%
Wrong Direction 56%

10/25-29/08
Right Direction 11%
Wrong Direction 85%

You see, people are not judging the administration based on desperate spin or doom and gloom. A 56% approval is not the end of a political career.

7. This is no joke: We have two ongoing occupations and now this Administration
is about to MANDATE young people to pay the medical bills of the old ... in addition to fighting their Oil and Gas wars in the Middle East.

Good luck with the "under 30" crowd come 2012.

5. I reiterate:
People are not judging the administration based on desperate spin or doom and gloom.

But hey, if you find comfort in your belief that the administration is "imploding," enjoy.

2. 56% is very good, very healthy
And once this health care madness ends and people will actually understand that the government did something good for them - This president will be fine. Something that i can't say about the bitters.

8. It's fun to watch this whole thing WHILE reading Plouffe's book...
.... ironically, I'm on the New Hampshire chapter right now.

We still have a long way to go in this first term.

.... and miles to go before we sleep.

So I'm not sure what your point is.

13. What you're seeing is a schism in the party- with the administration choosing to pander to the right
Edited on Wed Dec-16-09 05:55 PM by depakid
As one poster astutely noted today- 1994 and 2000 were didactic moments, though apparently the insular crowd running the administration (and the Senate) is either incapable of recognizing the pattern emerging- or are too arrogant or cynical to care.

17. No we're not, as evidenced by the polls.
What we're seeing is freeper trolls wanting a schism and desperately trying to create one.

And failing.

19. Trolls trying to create one?
Talk about tone deaf. Perhaps you might want to apply for a job as a Senate staffer.

Sad thing is that while we ought to have no problem about people staying home in Blue Dog districts- or in Blanche Lincoln or Harry Reid's case, there are other districts- like the one Brian Baird's retiring from in southern Washington, where turnout may prove to make the difference.

And at this rate, who's going to be all fired up to go out and work for Democrats (and by proxie, an administration) who're creating the perception that they're unwilling to stand up and fight for ordinary Americans

23. Wait until the polls following this week -- those numbers will be very different
Most Americans probably weren't aware until this week that Obama was pushing a plan to force them to buy private insurance policies. They know now.
