Look, what we want, or so we say often enough, is exactly to increase taxes on the Rich, cut Defense, and to insure that Medicare and SS are here to stay.
We also, in the majority, support larger investments in Education, Health Research, Green energy, and Infrastructure spending....
Sure, there is a lot more that we want, but surely those are some of those.....
And so, many of us have demanded that the President uses his Bully Pulpit to push these things, and some of us have said this often as the answer to others who say that the President is only one branch of the government, and so he can't just become a dictator. Folks then say....but he could use his bully pulpit!
So when I read the skeptical responses on this particular speech, such as.... "It's just a speech and perdy words", or "I'm going to wait and see what he actually does", "he talks a good game, but till I see it done....." or "let's see some actions and then I'll decide what's what", or, "did he mean it, or does he just want to get re-elected?"....... than my question becomes, if the grand plan is to wait until congress passes all of the things that Obama outlined as his vision in fixing the deficit without hurting our economy, before your faith in this President is restored, what exactly are you going to do in the meantime?
Folks, many of us spend beaucoup time on the Internet.... and at this time, as the election season kicks off, I'm curious to know what these various responses mean in terms of actions some are planning or not planning to participate in, in order make congress pass those things as outlined today.
You see, the Alternative plan is quite simple and stark... IT IS PAUL RYAN'S NIGHTMARE PLAN....
So why would anyone want to simply "wait to see"? What kind of activism is that?
I know folks can get quite passionate when it comes to this President and what he proposes or might propose, certainly... as we saw in the days (since Sunday) in the lead up to this speech. We saw folks saying they wouldn't vote, they wouldn't work, they wouldn't donate, they would just check out if this President touched Medicare Benefits or Social Security.
Meanwhile, many here countered and say...why don't we wait till Wednesday to find out instead of getting all mad and cynical before the President had spoken.
SO then Wednesday came, and the President spoke.
Now it appears that some of those who reacted beforehand in a very passionate manner, now simply want to passively wait and see.
Meanwhile, those who wanted to wait and see the facts first, are now ready or preparing to get all activist on us, so that we can get what we heard in the speech done.
So how can anyone NOW be thinking so passively about supporting issues that they said they so cared about yesterday, when all along one of the points made by same has been that we should be caring more about the issues, than about anyone politician? How can one say they want to see the President fight, but they themselves are not willing to do just that?
If one is not willing to follow on the issues as laid out by the President; but yet before the speech, those same issues were the straw that would break the camel's back if the President didn't support those things..... Then I'm not able to reconcile those who now call on Pres. Obama to follow up on his "talk"... and only if he does, will they then be willing to follow his lead by they themselves doing something other than talking. Please, help me out on this!
