I don't think anything "guarantees" Pres. Obama's re-election......
Edited on Mon May-02-11 02:29 PM by FrenchieCat
and yeah...I'll say why, if you don't know; cause he's President while Black,
so whatever list of accomplishments he has won't matter,
even if during his last remaining 1.6 years in office,
the wars in Iraq and Afghanistans are ended.

Here's an informal list of accomplishments put together by Steve Bennen.

What I'm imagining is Obama and his supporters offering voters a list of accomplishments from his first term, and it's going to be a doozy: ended the Great Recession, health care reform, Wall Street reform, student loan reform, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repeal, New START, the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the biggest overhaul of our food-safety laws in 70 years, new regulation of the credit card industry, new regulation of the tobacco industry, a national service bill, expanded stem-cell research, the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, net neutrality, the most sweeping land-protection act in 15 years, health care for 9/11 rescue workers, and the confirmation of two Supreme Court justices.

Oh, and he killed Osama bin Laden.

Instead folks will zero in on what he hasn't accomplished....

So in order for Barack Obama to get re-elected, he will have to:
Get unemployment down to 4% done by pulling Union jobs out of his ass,
make sure everyone's mortgage has been paid,
bring Bush to justice,
brokers peace between Israel and the Palistinians,
end all wars,
make weed legal,
get rid of DOMA notwithstanding a Republican majority House,
cures cancer and AIDS,
provide us with national single payer health care,
prevent any further natural disasters,
reduce gas prices to not more than $3.00 per gallon,
have the Dow at 13,000,
bring some major sports event to America,
kiss the media's ass every single day of his remaining term....
and beg on his knees for donations and folks to work for him
for the 2012 election.

Now, if he does all of those things, than he's a shoe-in!
But of course, if someone finds his grades (and there is a B on there)
and the MSM decides to discuss Trump generated rumors that Bill Ayers took his SATs for him,
then he's out no matter what else he's done.

Rest assured however, that if Pres. Obama is found out to be an acoholic,
and it is discovered that Michelle was in a fatal auto accident
in where she was driving and killed someone,
and Obama allows, through incompetence, the largest attack on American soil,
but he gets a bullhorn and screams USA, USA, USA in it while standing at
the crime site, well than he's in like Flint,
notwithstanding his laundry list of "to do"s...of course.

To illustrate my point, Intrade has Barack Obama 62.4% chance of winning re-election,
down 1.9% from the closing prior to Bin Laden's death announcement.

That's just simply how we roll! :patriot:

1. Health care reform?
Where's the punchline and where's the public option he promised?

Thanks for illustrating my point!
"Obama is superman perfection or he's going down" is the punch line.

Have a great day! :hi:

9. Yep... he's 100% in control of the FUCKED UP ECONOMY left to him
all by himself...and all he had to do was to close all of the banks,
turn our financial system on its head, reform all tax laws as they have
been on the books for the past 30 years building and make us a socialist
country a la Sweden in 2.4 years!

....which you failed to notice is why I list that he must bring unemployment down to 4% by pulling
jobs (and not just any jobs...but Union Jobs) out of his ass.....

So I've got you covered Cpt. America! :patriot:

That's exactly what I expected from someone calling themselves crazy Dave....
nothing more.

Cached your comment on not voting for Obama in 2012,
as this means that I can comfortably disregard everything else
you will ever have to say here at DU as of today.

3. Agreed.
I think "today" his chances look good but tomorrow the story changes. Attention spans are short. As is focus.

Cheers

4. considering 2012 will be the dirtiest campaign eveah AND
the crazy right will have enough money to buy nearly all the commercial time in America next year THEN
by election day half the country will believe Osama and Obama are drinking buddies (and of course Osama is still alive)
Never bet against American ignorance.

7. Yeah. GHWB lost after Gulf War I after all. The economy will figure the most.
I think Obama will be reelected and this Bin Laden business will certainly help, but it's far from a given.

8. 18 months out there is no guarantee. Desert Storm ended too early to help Bush 1 in his reelection
in 1992. It will mean more in a year from now if the economy is doing better and unemployment has dropped. But there is no denying that getting bin Laden will not hurt.

13. OP epic fail: It would have been nice if there was one day
where everyone at DU could feel good about having a Democrat in the White House during a great military success such as this.

Instead, it was just used by you to kick the "Professional Left" once again.

Lighten up, Frenchie. Let us all celebrate this victory without you attacking fellow Obama supporters that just don't happen to feel that he has governed like he campaigned.

This makes you look even more small and petty.

14. I don't really care how some think I look.......
because I have been reading here a really long time,
and I know what I am typing is the truth.

Nothing Obama will ever do will guarantee is re-election, period.
and a large part of it is because more is expected of him than
have been demanded of any other President ever.

You don't have to like the truth....
but it doesn't make it go away.

18. I've been checking out DU daily since 2004,
so I know, too, what it was like long before Obama.

It's just the timing of things that makes me sad about your post.

You are absolutely right about no guarantee of reelection.

You are absolutely wrong about the motives and motivations of Obama critics from the Left. It's not from unrealistic expectations, it's just that we want to "hold his feet to the fire" as he stated that we should. I feel the "other side" of DU is enabling dishonest corporate behavior by saying every basic Democratic belief that he compromises on is OK and justified. I was so proud of his election, and now so disappointed on the lack of honesty and leadership that he has shown since taking office. This duplicity will really hurt turnout in 2012, IMO.

But this is beside the point. Please let DU have one day of unity. We really could use a cease-fire for a day, don't you think?

19. Again......I've been on the Democratic Side from day one.....
and clearly understand the alternative and how our politics work.
I also understand how the unreasonable never have anything to say positive,
and are only here to accentuate the negative about this President.
Those of us who understand clearly how laws are made, and how our media works,
are much more supportive than those who don't give a shit and only want what they want,
and that is the only measure they use in determine this particular President's performance.

I will say that I believe that you can and should believe whatever you feel like it....
and with that, so should I.

I have been accused of telling others to STFU for a long time now,
along with being called a black racists by many members here because
as a Black person, I'm not allowed to comment on how Barack Obama is disparaged
over and over again, beginning a long time ago....
and so because of that, I will practice what those who scream a lot have preached,
and will, like them, not STFU.

:hi:

20. Didn't mean to imply that you "STFU". Just the timing was poor.
I hope you weren't implying that I don't "understand the alternative and how our politics work", or "understand clearly how laws are made, and how our media works".

That would be pretty condescending and would reinforce my belief that you are completely at a loss as to the motivations of his liberal critics.

16. No. We should not get over confident here - the best of teams have
lost because they were too over confident. This is a good break for us but not a total win. We are all going to be needed to help in this fight and President Obama will need to work on gas and food prices and jobs.

17. Yep.
I think he could accomplish a lot more if we started showing him more support,
rather than so many throwing rocks. I think if Americans see a strong wind
of support behind Barack Obama from this point on, this will help us win back the House,
increase our senate majority, and relect President Obama.

I keep thinking that we all have a part to play and a job to do,
and that our job isn't solely "holding the Prez feet to the fire" for the entire 4 years...
and yet, that's what beend one for 2.4 years to date.....and thus far, those efforts may
have helped the President, but without a better balance of support from activists, even
when he does things that are good and what was demanded, it seems like our enemy
are helped moreso.

I'm making that point right here and now.....because at the end of the day,
anything short of Obama's reelection at a time of Koch Brothers money, Crazy rabid
RW Republicans, and a media that appears to hate the guts of progressives for the most part,
this will be a uphill climb, period.
