Can we do away with the notion the Democrats are weak on defense issues??
I was listening to Lawrence O'Donnell tonight on MSNBC, and he made a great point. For years, all the Republicans were proclaiming that they, and only they could keep America safe from terrorist attacks. Never mind that it was a Democratic president that won WWII. George W Bush ran his 2004 campaign on that notion that he was keeping America safe. The Swift boat scum sabotaged John Kerry, claiming that a war hero could not keep America safe. Kerry did not fight back against these baseless charges until it was too late.

Now that Osama Bin Laden is dead, and done in by a Democratic president, the notion that we are safer under the Republicans is sheer lunacy. The 9/11 attacks occurred under the Republican watch. Bin Laden escaped capture or death twice under the Bush administration. For years, the Republicans convinced Americans that the Democrats were soft on defense, didn't have the balls to go after the truly horrible killers of the world. For the past ten years, the Republicans ran on the lie that they, and only they could protect you from Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda.

O'Donnell said it best tonight. Barack Obama, a Democrat, finally put to bed the lie that Republicans have been spewing for years. Obama put to bed the notion the Democrats were soft on defense. Yes, Barack Obama went after Bin Laden, something the last president couldn't be bothered to do, and got him!!! Congratulations to Barack Obama, for killing a maniacal terrorist.

How are the Republicans going to spin this??

1. Yep. It's all Kerry's fault that Democrats were stuck with a GOP label

2. Unfortunately it has worked very well since McCarthy and Eisenhower
Truman wouldn't use nukes to end the Korean War and Eisenhower campaigned against the current administration on that issue. Thus, the Democrats are weak on defense/weak on Communism began.
