Please, please don't. Nor Rudy "9/11" Guiliani. You earned this-they did shit. Don't allow your decency to give these scum any undeserved validity. Please...

The codpiece is reason enough...

15. Remember how they kept Clinton away those first couple of years because
they feared the big dawg would overshadow Bush? Problem with bringing in Bush in at this juncture is that it won't have the uniting factor that Obama may think it will have.

30. It's not going to unite who?
Democrats with democrats??? I think the plan is to unite everyone...to not have it be political. There are a lot of republicans who aren't teabaggers who respect Bush. Bush, for better or worse, was president on 9/11...to not invite him would be really petty and small. And Obama doesn't have to worry about anyone overshadowing him.

34. I completely disagree. Everything in this country is political.
Ever since Newt Gingrich's revolution, the Republican party became very singular minded. Obama, catering to Bush at this point, will only create campaign moments for the Republicans. They will never be forced to accept that Bush's way, was the wrong way. So all that ill-thought out planning that Bush's administration was known for, will turn into American policy. It will be legitimized. Instead of a more diplomatic method that would have listened to Hans Blitz and Joseph Wilson.

50. Everything is political with the leadership....
Edited on Tue May-03-11 10:46 PM by RichGirl
But the people can for a few hours set politics aside and just feel the moment of unity. I have friends and family who are republicans and voted for McCain. But on election night they totally got into the moment. I got many positive calls and emails that night and on the days that followed. I had worked so hard on the campaign and they were all very happy for me.

But, fortunately, Bush won't be there. It showed a lot of class for Obama to invite him. I'm very glad he declined.

BTW...the republicans totally distanced themselves from Bush since he left office. No one even wanted him campaigning for them. He's even more pathetic now so there's no way any republican candidate is going to use this event in their campaigns. Why would they remind people that Obama got OBL and not Bush.

From the looks of the street demonstrators, they want him pretty badly. Its just the last part of a long grieving process thats lasted far too long. Of course he should speak there, its part of his job.

Obama hasn't visited Ground Zero since becoming president. This would be an awesome first visit.

Plus, Democrats should get to gloat too. God knows we put up with eight years of Bush's patriotic photo ops.

46. Agreed
There is absolutely no getting around the Presidential Daily Brief that said "Bin Laden determined to strike in US" being ignored. Bin Laden's name had been linked with terrorism for years. The Bush cabal had been warned about him repeatedly. It was more than a oversight by an ignornat, totally inept administation. It was intentional.

So, Clinton had two years to bring him down. Bush had eight years. And Obama had two years.

Who was the most efficient?

21. Please bring em all. No time for pettiness
Bring Big Dog, I belive his daughter was living in NYC. Invite Bush, Rudy, all of them. There will be only one speach of significance.

All the video will show President Obama on the stage and everyone else sitting, watching and acknowledging the moment with our President talking down to them from the stage while they listen.

We don't "own" 9-11, we own the closest thing we'll ever get to a solution.

and I'm glad for it too. I would make a horrendous president! Still I'll be nauseas if I see GWB anywhere near Ground Zero. He had little or no interest in Bin Laden while he was in office and doesn't deserve the credit now regardless of the Presidents apparent overwhelming need for "bipartisanship" in all things.

This was what s/he wrote: "Obama: Bring George W Bush to Ground Zero on Thursday (Vanity)" Then there are a whole bunch of posts saying Obama would NEVER do that because he's "classless," "narcissistic," and MUCH worse. There's no truth to the rumor that he'll show up with Bush.

I think there are a ton of people out there that are paid bloggers trying to change the feeling of this accomplishment. They would love it if the President would distance himself from this altogether. Why should he not be proud of making the call to do this? He is the President , he made the call, he should be proud of this and so should America. Not just Dems but all of us Americans we said we would get him and we did.

The guy is a peacock and narcissist and while it was a horrible decision to put the emergency command center in WTC7 for the most part he outperformed Bush in steadiness and guts for the week following 9-11.

Rudy was a good leader for a short period during the crisis. Before and afterwards not so much and 9-11 is all he has to run on.

38. Not repeating a rumor....Having experienced 2 years of Obama's presidency
I've seen time and time again that he seems fixated on reaching out to Republicans in everything, whether they are deserving or not. And Republicans time after time accept the kudos then spit in his face. I'm tired of that scenario and was expressing my hopes that he doesn't repeat this (IMHO) error again. I've neither heard nor seen any rumor to this effect-I'm sorry I thought I was clear that I was expressing my opinion-otherwise I would have sourced the statement.

He's about uniting people, not dividing them. He's also not going to alienate people who respect Bush. Or the republican leadership.

I can't even imagine why anyone would think for a second that Obama would shun the president who was in office during 9/11!!!!! That would be so small and petty of him!

He will invite him. Whether he comes or not is up to him.

33. 5 stages of grief
Watching RWers this week, it's obvious they are going through the 5 stages of grief in regards to Bin Laden getting killed at Obama's order:

1. Denial- "He's not dead...it's all staged to get Obama's ratings up...show us a body..."

2. Anger- "Obama is taking all the credit...he needs to thank the troops more..."

3. Bargaining- "It's all because of W's torture campaign that we got a name several years ago...er, Bush had something to do with it somehow."

4. Depression- "This is horrible, I'm not going to talk about this anymore, what about the economy?"

5. Acceptance/Spin- "Whatever, anyone could have done what Obama did, it took him long enough to act on the intelligence, it doesn't even matter in the war on terror, Obama should thank Bush."

Seriously, it is the 5 stages of grief right now. It's almost painful to watch. They keep spinning and twisting, but at the end of the day Obama succeeded where Bush failed, that's all that anyone will be able to make of this whole thing.

a discussion board if you expect everyone to march in lockstep with your own "obviously superior" views?

I really have difficulty believing that opinions expressed on a heavily liberal message board will affect the President's reputation one way or the other. I consider both my post and your response as totally insignificant in the overall scheme of things. The only difference between us is that I choose not to be rude and condescending to people I disagree with. In your case I'll make an exception.
