U.S. Job Creation Hits Post-Recession High in April

Job market conditions best in the South and Midwest, worst in the West

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup's Job Creation Index reached a new high of +13 in April. This does not differ much from the +12 of the prior two months, but well exceeds the +5 of April 2010.



April's +13 index score is based on 32% of workers nationwide saying their employers are hiring and 19% saying their employers are letting workers go. The February and March readings were 30% hiring and 18% firing. The April index shows improvement over April 2010, when 27% of workers said their companies were hiring and 22% said they were letting workers go.

5. It's not really that impressive since many of the jobs were McJobs. People care about

unemployment, but the jobs we need to be creating need to be jobs that qualify as middle-class jobs, not working poor.

Fuck this cynical bullshit about "McJobs". McDonald's is one of the nation's big employers. Whenever you see a large employer like that, an employer that has a presence in every single state, then thats definately sign that overall economic and hiring activity are improving. Shit on Mcjobs all you want. Whenever its not just McDonald's hiring but a bunch of other companies jumping into the fold, what excuse are you gonna use to trash the situation then? I'll be interested.

I'm just sick to death of this constant negativity. The economy has just as much to do with national confidence and how people feel as it does with all the numerical factors. Those of you that look for any avenue you can find to put a negative spin on anything and everything you can are nothing more than just part of the problem.

How has that information slipped by me? I could have swore that the economy has been booming for the last 3 years. Imagine my surprise. That must be why so many people are applying for any open jobs. And here I thought, all this time, that they just wanted some "food, folks and fun" and thats why so many applied.

In all seriousness now, of course a bunch of people applied. What the fuck do you think happens after a recovery from a recession begins? You have a bunch of unemployed people. When jobs start coming back, it shouldn't be any major surprise that all those unemployed people start *gasp*, applying for those positions.

abundant and unemployment begins to drop a quick pace. The jobs being offered, when a recovery is taking place, are those that pay a livable wage. When recovery is under way, inflation ceases to be a problem - in fact, prices usually begin to fall.

There's a huge disconnect between today's recovery and recoveries of the past.

That is one of the things that makes this index such a good indicator. It randomly asks people all over the country whether their particular company is hiring, letting go, or neither.

much of an improvement among unemployed friends in their mid fifties here in Fl. I have a feeling they won't be first in line for any jobs being created when younger folks will be cheaper to hire. It is really sad. I will take any good news in the job creation department though.

During the last recession, 2002-2004, I had to leave FL and come to NY to get a good job. I had a number of very tough years my last few years in FL and the first one or two in NY.
