9. It was the liberals and progressives who organized around Lamont. I know, because I was part of it.

I went to his organizing meeting in January of 06. When I saw the primary as being in early August, my hopes sank and I thought "How in the world are we gonna do this and GOTV at a time when half the state is on vacation?" But the energy around Lamont was immense and suddenly he became hot on the Internet.
Every liberal I knew in New Haven was doing SOMETHING on his campaign, even if it was just lowly phone banking, like me. One volunteer in his office that summer was French kid in his late teens...I wondered how he got hooked up with Ned Lamont!

I think a part of Joe died when he saw the crowds moving on, away from him like he was so much garbage. He had ignored the signs, the impatience we were having with him. He wasn't around any more at the local diner where he used to meet and greet. I never saw him walking to shul with Hadassah and their baby girl in our neighborhood, which I often did on Saturday morning as I was heading off to Jazzercise class. Then, of course, he sold his house here in New Haven and within about a year, out of New Haven entirely and (they said) to residence in Stamford (as close to NY as you can get).

He rarely is seen back here...and for good reason...

My OP points out the value of supporting one candidate over another. Perhaps we would be better off with Ned Lamont in the Senate. Perhaps Leiberman was a better choice.

No matter where you stand on passing the legislation we have now or supporting the President (and believe me I'm more supportive of it and him than a lot of people here), it is pretty much indisputable that this process would've gone better if Ned Lamont were in the Senate instead of Joe Lieberman. The OP is absolutely correct and frankly I don't see anything divisive about it. Obstructing the largest piece of the party's domestic agenda just to be a prima donna and get a health insurance lobbying job in a few years is fucking unacceptable.

Some conservative and moderate Dems supported Joe Loserman but he got elected with more Rethugs then Dems. Please get the facts correct. Progressives in CT never supported Lieberman in 2006 or after, including me.
