Romney, Palin Lead Reduced GOP Field for 2012
Cain debuts at 8% support
by Jeffrey M. Jones
PRINCETON, NJ -- Mitt Romney (17%) and Sarah Palin (15%) now lead a smaller field of potential Republican presidential candidates in rank-and-file Republicans' preferences for the party's 2012 nominee. Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Herman Cain essentially tie for third, with Cain registering 8% support in his initial inclusion in Gallup "trial heat" polling. Notably, 22% of Republicans do not have a preference at this point.

3. I don't think Romneytron "feels" anything but relief that he's leading at all.

Considering Palin complimented Romney in the past and even hinted that she wouldn't mind being his VP during one interview, I think we've got the GOP ticket right there. The two are probably already planning it. If you consider the GOP base, then it's easy to see why the ticket is inevitable if Palin does indeed run (there are recent signs that she is serious about it).

7. Romneytron will be totally taken for a wild ride, just as McCain was.
He'll be left an empty shell after she sucks all the political juices from the campaign and uses them to launch herself into greater celebrity.

4. I don't bother to imagine because I don't give a fuck.
They are all clowns. All the GOP has are clowns -- if not initially (a big if), then once they meet the teabagger scrutiny.

5. He thinks it's his "turn"
but to most of the GOP base, he's old hat. Even the country-clubbers who should like him are suspicious that he'll flip-flop on tax breaks for them.
