If your income is a million dollars+ per year you have
lot more discretionary funds to send to politicians. You can
easily give thousands to a boat load of politicians. Example:Trump.

If you are a low income/middle income nobody making
$60,000 per year, you are already stretched in your budget,
and can't send thousands or even hundreds to various politicians.

5. I doubt we'd ever be able to push that through. All Pubbies are totally anti

tax! I couldn't believe it when our local county commissioner stated at a meeting 2 days ago that there was an $11.3 million deficit and he had to make some hard decisions. He could eliminate several libraries, close several of our parks, eliminate 2 of the 8 ambulances we have for the entire county, lay off several firefighters and several police officers etc, or he could increase property taxes by 1.5 mills. On a home valued at $180,000 that would mean an increase of $100.00 per year. I wrote him an email stating I would prefer he increase the ppty taxes. WE live on SS but our home isn't valued near $180,000...more like $130,000, and our taxes would only increase around $65.00/yr and I think we can manage a little over $5.00 a month to save all the othr programs. I also posted a LTTE online at our local newspaper. I was pummeled by 15 other LTTE's screaming at me for even considering any tax increase! Yes, w do live in Georgia and are surrounded by lots of Pubbies. I can't believe there was suce a negative reaction to $5.00 a month! Unfortunately, the same thing would happen on the Federal level.

The point is; IF the rich paid their fair share, we wouldnt have this problem with the debt OR Medicare/SS ...

Furthermore, if the heads of corporate America cut loose with a few percent more in wages and compensation; We wouldn't be experiencing such a disastrous economy right now either ....

Just a little LESS greed would solve many of our problems .....

Their short-sighted greediness has consequences that we all suffer .....

20. There's no limit on the Medicare tax.

Earn $50k, you pay the tax on it. Earn $500k, you pay the tax on the full amount. Earn $5M, you still pay the tax on the full amount.

It's 2.9%, 1/2 payable by the employee and 1/2 by the employer (unless you're self-employed, then you pay the full amount). In 2013 the tax becomes more "progresive" and over some amount of pay it rises to 3.8% ($200k for individuals, $250k for couples).

The cap was removed in '94. IIRC, the surcharge was instituted fairly recently.

23. It's a non-starter in the House

Just as ending Medicare is a non-starter for the Democrats. The debt issue isn't going to get fixed anytime soon because there's no room for compromise. Not that I think we ought to compromise on Medicare, but it means that under divided government there will be no fix to the debt issue.
