I feel very confident that Barack Obama would never allow himself to get involved in a sex scandal.
Of course that kind of confidence could be betrayed by anyone at anytime.

But as it stands, I believe he is a man that is both faithful to his wife and also too politically intelligent to get caught up in such a risky, petty, dirty, career endangering drama.

He isn't the kind of guy that will ever get caught with his pant down.

This alone probably drives the right wingers insane.

Its probably part of the reason why the attacks against him are so hyperbolic and over the top.

He is too clean of character for them to find anything of substance to go after.

I just think this is something that needed to be said and a quality that needs to be appreciated.

4. I wouldn't have said either way. Anthony has barely been married anytime at all.
And as far as I know, he has no children. I've never seen him interact with his wife or his family like we have the President.

Don't get me wrong. I still support Anthony Weiner as a Congressman. His heart is in the right place on the issues. But prior to this, he never gave anyone a reason to predict if he was the type to screw around one way or the other.

9. If he wants a political career and/or legacy he has to because he is black plain
and simple. If he was to do what Bill did or maybe even Weiner as a congressman; he would be so done it's not funny. Ya Weiner probably wont get reelected but he will still have something.

Do you think for a minute that if Obama admitted to being an alcoholic he would be president like Bush????

14. Very true. His race causes the bar to be raised MUCH higher.
and even with his high achievements, his qualifications are STILL questioned. Only one reason makes sense.

Apart from that, when he and Michelle considered a serious run at the presidency, they had to have thought about what he would face and what the opposition would do to get the dirt on him. No one can predict the future, but I would be absolutely shocked if the President was so careless. I don't think it'll happen. I think he's one to learn from the lessons of Clinton and others.

Sorta like a frat secret? *geesh* Between what you guys apparently must do because of your penises, and what you like to do with guns and artillery, it's just pretty darned depressing that these are the games we play while serious problems need grown-ups who know how to keep their eye on the ball-- and their dicks in their pants.

I defended Weiner in the presence of my 13yo son just 3 days ago. I was also a John Edwards supporter together with my children. I'm sick of defending jackasses that don't deserve defending. So pathetic.

29. It isn't a pedestal. It's a reasonable comparison to a current event (Weiner).
No one can know what goes on in ANYONE'S head, including a spouse.

It's natural to hypothesize and speculate. Otherwise, there'd hardly be any content on this forum, for example.

So given that, it's less about character for me than just being fucking smart in the face of seeing what the political consequences are of getting caught cheating. I'd just like anyone who's been caught to tell us what they were thinking - did they really think their tracks were covered or what?

he is a man of good character - a dedicated and loyal husband and committed father . But as another poster said, unless you're a personal friend - and I would argue even then, you never know what temptations people (both men and women) will succumb to.

Hopefully, Obama will continue to exhibit the characteristics and judgment that have made him successful till now. We all depend on that.

37. Interesting how it gets tied back to looks.
When Schwarzenegger 'fessed up and people saw recent pictures of his mistress, some of the comments were "she must have been hotter 10 or 12 years ago". She wasn't.

It's a frequent response whenever a high-profile guy with an attractive wife is caught going/looking elsewhere: "How could he do that?" Princess Diana, Elin Woods, Maria Shriver...

I think the idea that someone could be attracted to a person who's perceived to be less attractive than his/her partner makes people uncomfortable because then, what's the point of going to such lengths to stay young-looking or good-looking?

Then there's the theory that men are generally hard-wired to get with as many partners as possible, so it doesn't matter what a spouse does, they're thinking about sex elsewhere. Another uncomfortable thought that flies in the face of the idea that marriage makes the bond.

I'm sure mileage varies wildly, but apart from the perfunctory apologies, I'd like to hear someone explain why they did it, if they could be honest about it. I'm curious.

47. LOL. You talk about hyperbole in on breathe then cry sexism with the other.
How ignorant. If we were talking about a woman and this same poster made the same comment about that woman's husband being attractive, would you also call that sexist?

Attractiveness plays a big role in people's relationships. Its definately not any kind of rule that attractive people don't get cheated on. But its also less likely that someone will cheat on a partner that they are very much into and physical attraction is a big part of people being into each other.

Thats not sexism. Thats fucking biology.

You cannot possibly know what a person would do with any certainty. Besides, what does his marital fidelity have to do with governing the country? Bush was apparently a faithful husband and look at the mess he got us into. I don't expect politicians to be popes. I just hate the hypocrisy of those who point fingers and then act far worse than the people who they were pointing the finger at. Case in point was Clinton and several of his Republican accusers.

I don't care about the state of the Obamas' marriage. It's none of my business. Ditto for that of other politicians.

44. It doesn't matter whether YOU give a shit or not. It matters what the general electorate thinks.
And if a high office Democrat gets involved in a sex scandal, they get eaten alive for it. So it matters and it matters a lot. Whether you want it to matter is irrelevant.

43. Ahem....
...Would you care to go on record? I mean, come on... here's the problem, even if it was a total falsehood, it's all along the lines of, "...do you beat your wife anymore?" That's how the media operates... as far as having a sainted halo, Jack Kennedy ('Chickie Baby' to the Rat Pack) had two kids and a beautiful wife... years later, in the film 'Kennedy's women', friends quoted him as saying "... I get a migraine if I don't get a strange piece of ass every day" BHO is a politician, period, with the same foibles as anyone. This sort of 'oh, Saint Barack would never do anything like that because he is so gooood' is silly. Hopefully, people vote on bottomline policies rather than some unrealistic view of someone's theoretical morals.

45. As I said to others in this thread, it matters from a political perspective whether you want it to..
...or not. If a high level Democrat gets involved in a sex scandal, they get fried by the media and the electorate. Period. I'm glad I can feel like I don't have to worry about that happening to Obama. I'm glad I feel like I have a Democratic President who will keep himself clean in that regard. You may think its silly and you may be accurate. But thats also irrelevant. Whenever Clinton got caught up in his scandal, he was marginalized for it. He was never taken seriously for the remainder of his term. It was only later that he began to get some of his respect back.

This shit matters. You might not like it. But you liking it has nothing to do with its relevancy. Deal with it.

If he chose Michelle cause she was hot, there is plenty of reason to believe that there is at least the possibility that he would and has already cheated on her.

Your opinion is just a baseless opinion.

On Edit: A man that is willing to use drones at 4x the rate that Bush did and is willing to kill innocent children deserves ZERO high marks for morality.
