Question: So the Senate bill passes in whatever state it does. What
happens then? Don't more 'serious people' from the House and Senate go to conference and meld them?

Why all the angst without knowing the outcome?

1. There's talk that they expect the House to accept the Senate bill as it arrives
But I just don't see how that can happen. Not with the differences. Remember, the Senate has some people like Lieberman and Nelson who appear entrenched.

2. seriously?
you're asking for PATIENCE AND LOGIC in the SAME thread?

I really think you're asking for too much ..... I try to limit myself to one reasonable demand per OP. :)

3. "Why all the angst without knowing the outcome?"
ok babylonsister, let's say we just all wait and say nothing while this thing gets passed with mandates and no choices--then what do you think the republican media (mostly all media) will do the next day?

I'll tell ya, they would probably get their dinosaur hunting teabaggers to surround the white house carrying pitchforks and torches...

Don't you think it's better for all of us to bang out these issues BEFORE, while we still have a chance to make it work?

--it's nice to want a pony for christmas, but check it's teeth; one that gets thrown into the glue factory two days after it arrives is not something desirable, even if it makes the party fun.

4. There may not even be any conference
At which point, I assume everyone will admit the fix is in. It is also hard to ignore that no matter what seems to happen the whole thing resets back to the Baucus bill every time.

Seeing how this keeps playing out, what possible changes can we reasonably expect to see that some conservative won't pop up and demand it be deleted or no bill?

The angst is because you don't wait to say something when you see the car driving off the cliff. I've tried to remain pretty patient throughout the process but I haven't been left enough to suspend disbelief at this point. These regulations are big loopholes and price jumping, they leave the anti-trust exemption in place which is a bright red siren, and there is no market on a mandated for profit product.

What is the historic success here? Is it really just passing any bill whatsoever labeled health care? The only real reform is that they have to cover everyone rich enough to pay three times the rate they'd more normally pay.

5. If there even is a conference, the bill will still face a 60 vote test in the Senate.

So the conference report will have to keep this in mind, that is if the House just doesn't pass the Senate bill as is.

6. As a practical matter I don't think an improved conference bill can pass
Unless all the demanders mysteriously lost interest post-conference.
