Those who don't should pay - the source of the coverage should not be an issue since this is the system we know. It would take a long time to set up a public plan, so politically it wouldn't be ANY better.

Why should we all pay for those who refuse to get insurance?

Why should we kick all the minorities in the face by not giving them a chance for insurance just because this bill is not perfect. You should visit the emergency room across the street - your mind would snap back to reality faster than you could say "ooops, I was wrong".

I've been called head cheerleader too many times to count.

As for the facts, it is very true that the bill being discussed is a
Senate bill that has yet to be finalized or reconciled.

We can avoid the truth in order for it to fit into our argument,
but it won't change what the facts actually are.

We are all frustrated, but that should not make us throw out the current possibilities,
and the realities of where we are, and the fact that we have a longer way to go.
To do so is irresponsible, and is not constructive.

42. I agree. But a lot of us have compromised and compromised until we can

hardly see any remnants of what we set out to do. Single payer universal coverage was never even really considered by the WH, so we compromised and went for the strong public option, which became the weak ineffectual public option, which is now something else. We've got no power to get decent drug prices from big pharma, and no guarantee that the insurance companies who are going to be raking in the mandates won't price your average person out of the market anyway. (And don't get me started on the Stupak mess.)

I just want as many people to be covered as possible with the best possible coverage, no one is turned away, and no one can go bankrupt from trying to be healthy. There are so many countries out there who are managing to meet those goals, but instead here we are pussyfooting around what could have been the most amazing reform enacted in my lifetime. The only hope I have is that they fix the bill before it passes. Please God, make them fix this dang bill.

many cases instead of my own party, settled for the now scuttled public option instead of a true single payer universal health care system. I live with the fact that corporations can buy politicians. I live with the fact that our country doesn't seem to care about climate change or the state of our education system.

Truth is, if you aren't already gnashing your teeth then you're either not paying attention or happy with the corruption and shortsightedness offered by our elected officials.

And if they asked me if I approved, disapproved, or was undecided on the current version of HCR in the Senate I would say disapprove.

Again, for me, this isn't about Obama IT IS ABOUT HCR POLICY. Now if Obama continually disappoints me in his leadership on most of the issues that mean most to me, sure, it could become about Obama also. But that is not where I am at now.

Meanwhile if you want a real world hit on how serious a matter growing resistance by "the base" to the current status of HCR is, just watch the intensity of the counter attacks the Administration and their media allies are waging on those they considers opponents of his HCR efforts. Note which direction their guns are aimed.

35. I see many of the current issues with HCR as a direct result of Obama's

failure to lead. His office demands strong leadership, and we just haven't seen this with HCR.

If a public option is important, he should have said so from the very beginning, and everyone in his administration should have enforced that fact. But we've had too many different versions of what is or is not acceptable to Obama.

One of Obama's big issues was cost control, and that will not happen without increased competition, which is best brought about by a strong public option. Without that one item, there is no reform, it's just a hand out to the health care insurers, and a new tax on Americans, which Obama promised wouldn't happen under a certain income level.

I want to see leadership from the President, and we just aren't getting that consistently.

to manipulate their thinking.

Gallup will tell you anything- and some gullible fools will ignore all other credible data- obvious trends or dynamics- even common sense and their own experience- and go with the cheap poll.

They'll say: more than 75% of American believe that angels are directly watching over them! -and most will believe it.

This tendency in the populace- among other things, is at the heart of why America has become a failing state.
